Seems like you answered your own question. My daughter just paid $70 for an oil change that probably would've cost me $35 and 5 minutes of time! She has a Jeep so it's a piece of cake.

I haven't done oil changes for a while since my new car came with some free oil changes. That's coming to an end.

I use to be able to get full synthetic for around $1-2/qt. Usually with a mfr rebate.

I know everything's more expensive now. Had it gone up this much? $3/qt is considered a good deal?

Oh and it use to take 5 min to do an oil change. More the oil filters are just the paper insert so it creates a huge mess

I get a filter for about 5-7bucks then the Mobil 1 0w-40 5qt for about $17 after tax. So it totals about 22-24 bucks each change. Plus I know I used great oil. Dealers will use the cheapest crap they can get.

Sorry to hear that, it sounds miserable, but as a counter point:

I keep a stock of a dozen or so boxes in a garage in Florida. I've done this for years. None have leaked.

Same. I just buy filter from the dealer. The price at their parts department is usually pretty cheap already. If you get the employee price, it's even better slightly like $1. Smilie

They don't really make much profit off selling filters.

I rather do my own oil changes. It's always a gamble elsewhere. If they have teens who don't care…. Do you want to deal with an oil leak on your driveway? Yes they can forget to put the plug in all the way. I've seen it where they forget to tighten the filter. Sure they get fired and then they just hire another silly kid. It's not a permanent job position.

I've installed a drain valve plug on my vehicles to make oil changes so much quicker and cleaner.

$16 is a decent price. Just an FYI for those that don't want to stock up or don't have a Costco membership, Walmart's Supertech synthetic is $19 for a 5 qt jug. It's a perfectly fine oil. Many web results indicate that both Supertech and Kirkland (and many other private label brands) are all made by Warren Distribution.

If you really want to push the limits of cheapness, you could buy a discounted Walmart gift card from cardbear or other card resellers to save 5%-10%.

If you notice that an oil is missing the ACEA specification, I consider this is a cheaper oil and I would typically just use in Toyota or Honda.

Ummm…..you're on a thread that's posting 10 quarts of oil for about $32. Higher end oil filter around $8-$10 and you're in it for $40-42

It's $31 or $32 for 10qt at my local store when it's on sale. No tax, only a $0.50 oil fee.

I'm not 100% sure how I didn't know this, but a while ago I went to my local Walmart to grab some oil and an OEM filter. They were out of the filters so I figured I'd just buy the oil there and drive all the way across the street to the Toyota dealer and pay their exorbitant price for the filter.

I had no idea it would be ≈$4 cheaper there. I literally thought it would be a lot more than Walmart, but here we are... learn something new every day.
