I agree with this. One thing to be on the lookout for is when they try to sneak in a different warehouse for the shipment of other parts (air, cabin filter, etc.) and charge double shipping. While their pricing is great, they are sneaking bastards with the shipping game.

can't say it is a sneaky situation when they ship from multiple locations across the US. they charge based on number of packages shipped.

Check your local auto parts stores, waste/recycle center, etc. Where I live, the county recycler takes all kinds of hazardous wastes.

Stealerships are, often times, no better. I changed the oil on my sister-in-law's Lexus after telling her to stop taking it to the dealership. The previous mechanic must have used an impact gun set to maximum torque on the filter cap. First, I tried using a standard 3/8" ratchet which has always worked on all other vehicles. No luck, so I stepped up to a 1/2" ratchet. Still nothing. Worse yet, it cracked the plastic cap making it useless. Since it was cracked, I took out my 1/2" impact and it still wouldn't budge. It actually shattered the cheap, chineseum steel oil filter socket.

I had to run to the auto parts store to buy a new steel tool and filter cap. It took my full weight on the end of a breaker bar with extension out to 3' to finally break the cap loose. There is absolutely no reason for them to have tightened it to that extent. I inspected the threads on the cap and engine and the threads did not appear to be damaged.

On a positive note, I did score a MAC Tools 23mm combination wrench and panel pry tool from the dealership. Previous Toyota mechanic left them on the aero covers underneath my brother-in-law's SUV when they replaced the 02 sensor over 3 years ago. Of course, they used the wrong sized wrench to do it. I'm no sure how my brother-in-law was able to drive his SUV 70+ miles a day without knowing those things were down there. I was able to hear them sliding and clanging around just lifting the SUV with my floor jack.

I have not had to buy oil filters for years. Check you local auto parts stores. Mine has a program once or twice a year where they partner with some environmental group that provides free oil change kits. I get a catch container, rag and funnel in the kit they provide. Nothing more than filling out your name and address on their sign in sheet. If you bring in a used oil filter, they give you a coupon to redeem for a new oil filter valued less than $13 or something like that.

I can usually get a Fram filter at Walmart for around $4.50 and so with this 5 quarts costing $16, I can perform an oil change at home for about 21 bucks. Not a bad deal at all for a synthetic.

I returned 2 boxes I had from last deal. They refunded at regular price. I had purchased 2 when it was not on sale(I was in a pinch). Just ordered 2 more(even though it's $2 more) plus other items using online coupon + gift card from the groupon deal. Just did a change today. Feels so satisfying to a) diy and b) not get ripped off. I dispose the oil at Autozone.

Yup, worked at a repair shop in the late 90s. We saw 2 or 3 cars a month for oil pan replacements because the Walmart down the street stripped the threads on the drain plug. I distinctly remember one that dropped the plug and poured all of the oil out as he was driving away. WM paid us to replace the pan, but after doing that and starting it, the engine had a knock so they towed it out of there. No idea if WM paid for another shop to repair or replace the engine.
