For you, better to get it done at the dealer.

I typically spend about $25 DIY for full synthetic. It takes me less time to DIY then to drive to the shop and wait.

Well if your vehicle takes ~ 5 qts then with this deal you're paying about $13 for the oil, then probably $7 or 8 for the filter (I buy Purolator from Amazon and for my vehicles they are $8 plus they are eligible for S&S), so all in for consumables it's like $20ish. If you value your time (will basically always be quicker to DIY when you consider driving to a place then waiting), and you have the tools and space, yeah it still makes sense.

All you seeking filters, forget the OEM and pick up some Fram Ultras. I had a FP thread last year when they went on sale at Amazon but even at normal Amazon price they are great. Better than your OEM filter and probably similar price and you get them shipped to your door

can't say it is a sneaky situation when they ship from multiple locations across the US. they charge based on number of packages shipped.
The sneaky bit is their icon that indicates "ships from the same warehouse as one of your other items." When you dig, you'll find that they have multiple warehouses for many items, so even items with that icon can split your shipping. I just check after adding each item to the cart now, annoying but worth the savings.

For my corvette (10 qts synthetic + good brand filter) it's even more. Doing it myself works out to about $45 + the satisfaction of doing it myself and knowing drain plugs aren't over tightened, etc.

I do go pick up the oil in my Tesla…
This part. I hate letting other people work on it because they overtake and do other things that aren't right.

Stealerships are, often times, no better. I changed the oil on my sister-in-law's Lexus after telling her to stop taking it to the dealership. The previous mechanic must have used an impact gun set to maximum torque on the filter cap. First, I tried using a standard 3/8" ratchet which has always worked on all other vehicles. No luck, so I stepped up to a 1/2" ratchet. Still nothing. Worse yet, it cracked the plastic cap making it useless. Since it was cracked, I took out my 1/2" impact and it still wouldn't budge. It actually shattered the cheap, chineseum steel oil filter socket.

I had to run to the auto parts store to buy a new steel tool and filter cap. It took my full weight on the end of a breaker bar with extension out to 3' to finally break the cap loose. There is absolutely no reason for them to have tightened it to that extent. I inspected the threads on the cap and engine and the threads did not appear to be damaged.

On a positive note, I did score a MAC Tools 23mm combination wrench and panel pry tool from the dealership. Previous Toyota mechanic left them on the aero covers underneath my brother-in-law's SUV when they replaced the 02 sensor over 3 years ago. Of course, they used the wrong sized wrench to do it. I'm no sure how my brother-in-law was able to drive his SUV 70+ miles a day without knowing those things were down there. I was able to hear them sliding and clanging around just lifting the SUV with my floor jack.
Same thing happened to me before. I found one of my favorite snap-on ratchets under the hood of a car and with that whole filler cap breaking and oil filter being on too tight.. man these places are terrible. These are not truly certified mechanics these are just anyone they let come in for that rate. They charge you $120 an hour, but that's going to the dealership. You go to a local mechanic, at least more money might be going to those hands. But the more you can do yourself the better

I use Walmart Supertech and the $4.20 filter.

I do my own oil change since day 1. I never let anyone do my car oil change.

I take the used oil to Auto Zone, free recycling.

yeah, didn't want to do a blanket statement on how people store oil. UV/heat is what breaks down the plastic containers...

if this was sold in metal containers then the oil would last indefinitely.
And just like that, a notification that my order was damaged in transit.

Is Costco oil actually mobil one full synthetic ?
It's not Mobil 1. It's from the same company that makes WalMart's SuperTech Oil. Which is a good thing. It's a very high quality oil, there are tons and tons of reviews and independent analysis done on it.

Warren. Same that makes amazons and walmarts oil as well.

Good stuff that meets the newer SP API spec.

that's unfortunate... I personally don't ship any liquids of any kind larger than 1 quart for this exact reason.

6 quarts of motor oil in 6 - 1 quart bottles? sure.
5 quarts, 1 gallon, whatever that's a larger bottle... nope.

ordered a gallon of tung oil for my kitchen island staining last year, showed up half empty (other half was sitting on the floor of the Amazon van). even when it leaks half the time the driver doesn't bother to mark as damaged because they don't want to deal with it anymore...

I have mixed feelings about dealer. Not sure if you noticed but the dealer only change oil every 10k so, you don't really getting oil change on the 5k. Don't listen to their bull about new car doesn't need less than 10k per oil change. Oil is cheap, your car engine isn't
Why wait until 5k miles? Change it every 1k miles, oil is cheap
