These used to be my go to shoes. I even wore my last pair for lifting. Ugly colors for old prices. The "normal" colors are $60. You can get more comfortable shoes for that same price. I might still cop the clearance low top All Star for lifting. Anyone still finding the black All-Stars for $40 anywhere?
Since the Nike acquisition. Prices went up and quality went down.
As someone that's worn Chucks most of their life (I'm nearly 40) and my dad as well before me, Chucks were never great quality shoes. You bought them when they were in stlye, and/or because they were under $20. The even lower quality issues were popping up before Nike took over; you could see they cost cut on quality control, soles were always delaminating or fabric would tear at the creases, it was nothing new with Nike.
I do miss the Chuck 2.0s though. Even though they always had delaminating QC issues, those were comfy and I could easily wear them all day with their insoles and padded tongue. I just got a hold of some Chuck 70s, what people were touting as the replacement 2.0s, and I'm disappointed. They keep more in line with the old Chuck look than the 2.0s and have an upgraded insole, but the better insoles and padded tongue are sorely missed.
They put these on sale and put an extra coupon on their worst selling shoes to spark attention
Then the other ones on sale that are ok, the promo code doesn't work
Then the ones you really like are at full price
Brilliant sales tactic each level being $20 more to get their full profits

It's been that way for a looong time now. Gotta shop the sales or hope you luck out at Marshall's or tj maxx
The gingham low tops are cute, but none in my size I happen to like some of the funkier styles.
Suckers gonna do what suckers do.
