I just finished a major renovation using this saw. Used it for flooring, framing, baseboards, crown, cabinet fillers, etc. Can't recommend it enough in this price range. Honestly I'd take this over most saws within double this sale price. I initially paid 250 on amazon, but then found a clearance return at Lowes for 179 instead.

Pros:
-multiple useful positive miter stops including for cutting crown flat
- smooth sliding
- shadow line is superior to laser in every way except for using in direct sunlight
- you can't find a saw with this feature set anywhere close to this price range from a major brand
- very easy to adjust and change blades

Cons:
- poor dust collection
- shadow line is worthless in direct sunlight
- no positive BEVEL stops so you need to manually lock
- left bevel requires you to turn a handle that is VERY difficult to turn on my unit. It feels like I'm going to break it, but it could just be my unit.
- sliding miter saws take up more space. For my purposes I coulda gotten away with a fixed blade 12", but for the price and how much cheaper blades are I opted for the 10"

All around it's a great saw and I have used it heavily over the last few months.

From what I understand, shadow line is superior as Laser needs to be recalibrated often. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm new to woodworking

Shadow is super accurate because it is the actual blades shadow and so it never goes out of alignment.

Nice, but this has what's called Shadow line cut, not a laser line, not sure how well that works in bright sun

Shadow line does not need adjustment, so it is more convenient, but it is most suited to indoor use. Delta Cruzer 12" has Shadow line also, $900+ saw. Laser is more visible outdoors. Skil has really stepped up with their latest offerings. The table saw is excellent too.

This is an amazing price on a good saw. It was a good deal at $250, nevermind $200ish.

Anyone looking for a miter saw, now is your time.

Shadow versus laser. Don't be fooled by stupid gimmicks. And don't listen to the morons who claim that this is the deal breaker. I own this saw an it is an absolute beast. I purchased an equivalent dewalt and Bosch saw and returned both because this Skil saw did everything I needed. For the price, you can't beat it. Check out this video which is well made… https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DrBxST-rxfk

This better than the Ryobi at Home Depot for $179? https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI.../306939211

Yes, this is a sliding miter saw, so it is able to cut wider boards.

I could be wrong but it does not look like this has the worm drive Skil is known for.

This is a pretty nice saw for the price. Not as nice as some of the more expensive models from other brands, but hitting above its class for $200

Damn, never knew shadow line was a thing, that's really cool. Don't need another miter but something to think about if i ever do.

I sort of stay away from this design of miter saws because it takes up so much back space with the sliding bars sticking so far back. The delta and bosch have better sliding saw designs. Its not a big deal if you have a big shop and might not be as bad with a 10" vs a 12" saw.

Good thing this didn't pop up last year when i was looking for a small miter to take with me for some small projects at had going on. I ended up just using a circular saw I already had and saved the money.
