Tomahawk steak is just a ribeye with extra rib bone. Depending upon where you live $10/pound for rib-eye may not be especially slick. The steak pictured has OK marbling but not great. Given a choice between a ribeye with great marbling or some extra rib bone, I would go for great marbling.
It's so embarrassing how bad the quality of meat and poultry is in this country! Travel abroad, and see ! What a shame. Greedy corporations, I guess. Well, not guess but know.
Costco beef products have gone downhill the last 3-4 years. Utter garbage compared to what they used to sell. Not sure who is getting the good quality meats these days.

No one within my paygrade, the crazy heat is killing off a larger number of cattle than usual.

Agreed, it's been very disappointing. I've had some insane luck getting the "no-roll" whole ribeye and strip from GFS. I guess it's kind of luck of draw, but you can take a close look at the packaging and kind of get an idea on the marbling. It might just be my location, but I have one ribeye and one strip loin dry aging right now that look and taste absolutely fantastic. Ribeye was $8.99/lb and the strip was $5.99/lb

We still have a bunch of the whole tenderloins we got for $8.99 a month or so again at a local grocery store. Those are great.
