Feature-wise, these are good players for the price (Dolby Vision, dual HDMI outputs for audio, etc). Unfortunately, mine has been pretty unreliable about playing discs, with many of mine freezing somewhere in the menu screens requiring me to reinsert the disc and try again to get them to play. Other people have reported discs freezing mid-playback, which would be much more annoying, but so far none of mine have done that. It's not a dirty/scratched disc issue, but seems to be something inherent in these Sony UHD players.

They also tend to get very steep discounts around the holidays if you're not in a huge rush to get one right now

Latest firmware update happened at 05-31-2022. Knowing that people are still complaining, I would say Sony dropped the support of the device.

I don't know about anyone else but I've tried using this Sony Blu-ray and a Panasonic one and both always were trouble trying to play discs. The only luck I've had was playing them on my PS5 (horrible UI but it works without skipping).

I kinda wish Sony would drop a new one that patches the Dolby vision auto detect issues that this version had.

hugI bought one of these refurbished from Best Buy 2 or 3 years ago. It's still kicking and I haven't run in to any disc read issues.

Having said that, having to manual switch Dolby Vision can be really frustrating.

On the whole though, really happy with the purchase and the price I paid.
