I really wanted to get it. I just paid the extra for OLED at this point.
None of the premier reviewers are talking about "black crush". FOMO, Digital Trends, Brian's Tech Therapy, HDTV Test, etc.
If you need bright, I'd still do LCD 8k. My light is low so I can go OLED without much issue.
Samsung s90 gets pretty bright. Brighter than c3 at the same price point. Sony lags behind both there.

The TCL QM8 is a great TV overall. It's a fantastic gaming TV as it supports up to 4k @ 144Hz (with some caveats [rtings.com]), is compatible with every variable refresh rate (VRR) technology for nearly tear-free gaming, and its brightness is stellar in both SDR and HDR so all games look bright and vibrant. It also has incredibly low input lag in Game Mode. Its response time is also excellent, which is great for games but also for sports, as any fast-moving action is mostly blur-free. HDR content looks amazing on the TCL, as its HDR peak brightness is extremely high. The TV's contrast is excellent, so HDR movies look punchy and vivid in a dark room. Unfortunately, the TV's viewing angle is disappointing, so it's not great for watching sports and TV shows with many people sitting around it, and it has poor sharpness processing when upscaling content, so it looks its best when watching high-resolution sources.

there is some conflict over if it's just dolby sources that do it or if it's in general just in certain scenes.

Are the black levels of a C2 worth $600? I guess so for some people, although the QM8/U8K are so much brighter. Is that worth anything compared to OLEDs? You can get brighter OLEDs but then you're into MLA with the LG G3 and QD-OLED with the S95C/S95B/S90C, with prices around $2000 for 65". Not counting the insane price of a Sony A95L QD-OLED at $3500 for 65".
I've been debating getting a QM8 or U8K for a couple of months. I wanted the QM8 but the $300 price difference was hard to swallow. Now that they're both the same price, the QM8 is definitely my choice.
By the way, Mini-LEDs can already match OLED blacks if you're willing to pay the price. The TCL X955 (not yet available in the US) has 5000+ dimming zones and 5000 nits in a 98" screen. Those are unimaginable numbers. QD-OLED maxes out around 1500 nits. Reviewers who have seen it say you can't tell it apart from OLED black side by side. If you like big, TCL is selling a 115" model in China!
