I have this. It works decently.

Heads up, there's no SD card slot. So if you don't pay for a subscription you at best get a 10 second clip.
There's no onboard storage to use the free playback feature like their other cameras.

A word of warning about Wyze to anyone interested.. They have agreements with LEOs all over the country to give warrantless access to anyone's video system. My rural county has had this agreement since 2019 and it's been abused on more than one occasion

No local storage makes this a non-starter for me. I appreciate the heads up and saving me the time digging through listing and potentially reviews.

This Energizer one ( $27.71 ) has an SD card (so no subscription), and you can find other promos if you're a new customer. (Got mine for $17.71 plus shipping.)

Interesting. Do you know of a way to somehow automatically backup the video from the doorbell to the cloud, like to OneDrive or Google Drive so that way video would be preserved if somehow the doorbell or SD card is stolen?

Was hoping that rtsp would be possible, it is not. Hard pass for the obvious reasons, can't retain my video on my terms.

If you are techy you can spin up a wyze server and make all your cams including the doorbell (not Pro) rtsp comparable. I have one running and include all my wyze cams on my blue iris.

Do you have any recommendations for a video doorbell with local storage that doesn't require a subscription?

Be really interested in actual documented proof. This has been the case with ring but not wyze, ever.

It's as basic as you can get. I'm only using it because my wired Ring doorbell pro died and didn't want their $40/year subscription. It's worse in that it gives a lot of false positives. It will suffice till I find something better. I'll end up getting an Eufy or Blink. I'm using a battery powered Blink video doorbell on the garage door and I like it better.

Today I noticed that the white light doesn't come on when I approached it and ringing the doorbell didn't do anything. I went into the app and the video was streaming. I restarted the video doorbell from the app. After it restarted it was fine.

Like I said, it's basic and shows for it's $30 price tag. If you can wait I'd recommend a Blink doorbell when it's on sale towards Black Friday.

I had this doorbell since it came out.
Overall happy with this doorbell, but it does have some issues/limitations.
1. No SD card so it's limited to 10s cloud recording every 5 mins. Not a problem for me as I don't have a busy front door. And I have an old POE camera cover my front door as well.

2. Wyze doesn't have a good tracking record of the stability. When I first got this doorbell, I'm really happy (cheap, works really well). Few months later, a problematic firmware update made the doorbell not usable. At least half of the time, I found my doorbell won't ring, or lost wifi so no recording. The problem last for about half a year. I was considing replace it with a different one but was too lazy. Finally Wyze fixed the issue with firmware update and it works really nice till now (more than a year). Hopefully Wyze won't break it again in future.
Similar issue happens to my Cam v3 as well. Unlike doorbell, the camera itself works well (records videos). But the app to camera connection is very unstable. For few months, the app is just not able to connect to the camera. It was finally fixed with Wyze app update, but that took more than half year.
The worst product I got from Wyze is Smart Watch (the 40mm one). Even the alarm on the watch didn't work (alarm at the wrong time). I throw that thing in the trash.

Overall I think Wyze products are still a good cheap option, and that's the reason I still uses my Wyze doorbell and Cam V3. But if you want something worry free and just works, you may want find a different brand.

Can't a criminal just take the SD card? Seems to me like cloud storage would be much more reliable, but maybe I'm missing something?

Why stop with the sd card and just take the entire camera at that point

Thanks for the warning. No SD card slot is a deal-killer.
