Another nice, high-horsepower Chromebook deal (following another recent eBay refurb offer). However, this offer is diminished somewhat by coming through a third party.

In addition, it should be explicitly noted that the screen is non-touch. This is fine for Enterprise applications - for which this Chromebook model was targeted. But touch screen functionality can otherwise be very helpful with Android app support.

Good luck!

8GB RAM with a powerful (more than enough) CPU and large battery are good.
I'd say the 250 nits non-touch display is the weakest link.

Agree. 250 is too low. 400+ should be minimum at 1080. I know dell sells 220nits on the 720p panels which is really criminal how bad the displays are but 1080p should be brighter.

Folks who thinks laptop brightness do not matter (unless always plugged in ext.) forget that smart phones today are 1000+ nits. iPad Pro is 1600 nits peak HDR. There is a reason why we have higher peak nits on many devices.

End of support date from Google's AUE list (closest model name I could find - and, yes, the "ThnkPad" typo is directly copied from the page [google.com]):

mind sharing any android app which is useful in a Chromebook?

I tried Lenovo C13 last year, but I cannot find any good app for it. The most powerful app is Chrome.

Seriously? There are literally millions of apps in the Play Store - which among those one will find "useful" is *extremely* subjective. At least narrow the scope a little (a lot?) when asking such an open question.

When I tried C13, I just used linux to install applications which are desktop-level (VScode, libreoffice etc). For native apps, I only used Chrome.

I am curious who will use a mobile version app in a laptop / desktop, it does not make sense, right? Unless it is mobile only (I cannot come up)

I've done similar with my CB, however mine is a smaller 2-in-1 which allowed me to use it as a tablet for e-reader apps and the like. Before Reddit went nuclear thanks to ChatGPT, I used an Android app called Sync because it was a FAR more pleasant experience than either the native app, or their website.

Past that, I have some emulators, a few games, and a few apps required by my job installed. You're right - nowadays, apps are sometimes all that's available to perform some functions.

Anyone have experience with this seller? 97.9 reading could be a problem if you're not happy with the refurb.

This has since features you are unlikely to find in any other chrome book like a pointing stick and a cellular modem.

More and more apps work as time goes on. I guess you got frustrated that some app was not supported. Reality is most are or you can find a similar one.

I find many apps very useful. Unlike Windows 11 that forces you to use the Amazon play store.

You can sign up for Wan on this. So you can use it where WiFi is not available but of course you have to sign up and there is no Sim card to make it easy.

The display is too dang terrible on this thing.

Looking at psref below, this non-touch is low brightness (250 nits), low contrast (1:800) and low color gamut (45% NTSC). Even its best alternative option is just slightly higher brightness that doesn't have much practical improvements. Those specs are like mid/late-2000s mid-tier laptop.
45% NTSC should translate to like 70%-ish sRGB volume.
https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/...k_Spec.pdf

For comparison, its "predecessor" C13 has 300nits, 1400:1 contrast and 72% NTSC even with its lowest display option. (72 NTSC should translate to near 99% sRGB volume, although not necessarily sRGB coverage)
https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/...k_Spec.pdf

That says, the display is unacceptable IMO in the 2020s. Basically unusable outside on even a cloudy day. Washed out color and contrast. Usable with text-heavy web browsing, word processing software, spreadsheets. Guess good for terminal/consoles. That's about it.

I'd take a TP C13 with like 2-gen older processor over even the max'ed out config of this model any day.

(Unless someone can figure out booting other distro easily with drivers figured out and the WWAN unlocked, then i _might_ consider putting OpenWRT or so there and downclock it and hopefully use it as a glorified hotspot. Or maybe a light-weight homelab with built-in UPS and built-in WWAN fallback and built-in KVM (if vPro / IME is enabled with KVM) and built-in keyboard/crusor/display for debugging)
