Well I think a MacBook Air is expensive compared to let's say an orange, which provides Vitamin C, is delicious, and sustains life.

i got one from same seller around a year ago for about the same price. theyre good but the ANC is too strong for me, it feels like a suction cup between my ears and gives me headaches. heard you get used to it after a while but it still bothers me. also the headband hurts my head where it sits naturally, i have to shift it toward the front of my head a little more to relieve it.

the black also leaves some finger prints especially if you have oily skin/fingers. i would probably get the white one if i were to do it again.

That's unfair, an Apple to oranges comparison.

I think $199 is still too much for a refurbished older generation headphone, actually wondering why these headphones are so pricey, compared to a let's say a$1000 MacBook Air, which includes an operating system, a state of the art chip, a lot of other hardware and software.

Paid full price for these a year ago. Use them daily. Love em; zero regret. I will say they're not great for zoom or Teams calls though but that's not how I use them.

How do these compare against the XM3 for noise cancellation and sound quality? The mic on the XM3 is garbage, but I've decided that wireless earbuds are my best option for calls and so I would only use these over the ears for media on flights/etc. From what I can tell, I'm not sure if these are worth the upgrade in that regard.

I keep waiting to see the XM4 around the $200 range
XM4s have a flaw where they can just randomly let out a high pitch, ear-blistering squeal that lasts 10-30s. Woke me up out of my sleep twice on a flight and then once every few days the first few weeks I had mine. They were returned. There is no known repair, you'll need to warranty them or sell them to the next sucker and eat the loss.

I'd avoid the XM4s. My XM5s haven't had any such issue.

Does the headband crack all up on the sides like the XM3s?

eBay white is OOS. This item is out of stock. Walmart links show $400 price for black or white headphones. eBay shows the $230 price. Is there supposed to be a shopping code for Walmart to bring the price from $400 to $230?

I have this one. The only reason I don't like it is it hurts the top of my head after about 30 minutes of wear. Not comfortable at all. The headband is too narrow for the heavy headset. I have a Bosh one that is much more comfortable. I actually regret to get the Sony one.
This price will be seen again MANY times.

Also have no idea how these Sony could hurt anyone's head. They are soft, light. I believe you, but you are definitely an outlier.

Finally, these are good, but I'm not impressed with the sound at all, especially for these price. The Xm4 earbuds sound much better, though different form of course

Isn't that only for verified students? Is there another deal you're referring to?

I demoed a pair of the XM5 and B&W PX7S2 for a week. I ultimately ended up with the PX7S2. The ANC and sound passthrough is better on the XM5. The XM5 are punchier/crisper which a lot of people like, and they're very comfortable, but I preferred the warmth and and feel of the B&W.

I use my 1k MacBook Air about 4-8 hours a week. But I've my headphones 10x more which makes me an outlier I guess.

I use my headphones for work, watching tv when people are in bed, lifting weights in garage, watching YouTube, organizing house, flying on a plane, and house cleaning. That means 40+ hours per week X 3-5 years when I need a new battery. 200 dollars or even 500 dollars seems an ok price to pay for my rare use case. Sadly my AirPods Max have just started getting less range in the last few weeks.

Transparency mode is killer on the Max, which trumps the crappy case and stinky ear cups if you sweat.

I have the Bose 700 which has a better mic for calls and can use generic ear cups but the transparency mode isn't as good.

I may be in the market soon for my first pair this year.
I am very similar to you in terms of use case. Except I also use my MacBook Pro for 30-40 hours per week with wired earbuds. I was always a Bose fan. Sold my QCs and just lowered my footprint with wired earbuds and AirPods Pro. But I prefer over ear sets and want to get another. And not a huge fan of the APPro. Have constantly been debating about the xm4/5 vs QC45 vs 700 vs AirPod max. Main reason for AirPod max is because of the Apple ecosystem between my Apple products. Never really thought about the transparency mode honestly but it's something I need to consider and may push that into number one spot for me.

I know it saves money but I just won't buy refurbished Bluetooth headphones that don't have easy battery replacement. I've been stung a couple of times with the batteries in Sony's earbuds dying too soon.

Technically, you can replace the battery in the XM5 but it's not super easy. It involves taking apart the right ear pad. It has to be carefully done because there are multiple sensors that have to be disconnected and shifting a sensor even a small amount can mess up the headphones.

I bought the XM5s new back in December for $280 at Amazon and getting a full warranty along with an unused battery was worth the $50 for me.

Just received a white one from them. It's dirty. Gonna return it. The demo version at best buy sounds better. Not sure if they tweaked for demo purposes. I wish airpod max 2 comes out now. I'd be happy to pay more.
