As a 1st gen Nest doorbell owner, I discovered that there is also an internal, rechargeable battery in these units that will eventually die (as all rechargeable batteries do). In my case, it took about six years to happen.
Once this happens, the doorbell no longer has the ability to ring the home's inside bell unit. There are two options when this happens - buy a new Nest doorbell v1 unit, or try to replace the battery yourself.
I picked up a replacement battery off Amazon, and then followed the instructions on iFixIt. Maybe it was my original unit, but I could NOT get the faceplate off without totally gouging it up, effectively ruining the waterproofing. Clearly a poor design to not allow easier access to a battery that will fail.
After a week of running with my now ruined unit, I threw in the towel and bought a v1 off eBay. This was last year. No idea on how long there will be stock, but if you want to preserve your investment in the original Nest ecosystem, you might want to consider picking up a backup unit here.

In six years I don't think anyone should expect this doorbell to still be supported
That's a long time for a product that's been out a while already lol
I've only had mine since December 2021 & I love it. especially now that I can use the Home app too
for $75 I might pick up a second one, or gift one to my parents

No battery issues yet but there was an issue where video would go offline when someone rings the doorbell and the cause was the internal battery. Solution was just turn off the Indoor chime and that fixed it. However, this option requires another google device like a mini or home to notify when someone rings the doorbell.

Seen a lot of angry Reddit posts over Google increasing rates on Nest subscription.
$30 increase for nothing in return. I am sure they will blame it on inflation which is a common reason for almost every price increase these days.
The plastic covering on this blisters in the sun after about a year. Mine looks pretty ugly after this hot summer. With the price increase—and expectations that the Nest app will sunset—I'm now looking at other video doorbells.Any recs?

That's actually the same battery issue. When the battery dies, the doorbell doesn't have enough power to both ring the physical chime and record video. Without disabling the physical chime, the doorbell will shut off and stop recording for several seconds anytime the bell is rung. The fix mentioned above is how you would get both working again.
Mine did the same at almost 6 years exactly. I was hesitant to replace the doorbell with a new one, doing so would lose me the old Nest Aware sub at $50 a year. Now that Google has decided to end that, and my annual fee is going up to $80, I'm looking at my replacement options.

I just bought the ring pro 2 this weekend to try it. After one day of use, I'm going back to the nest hello or may try the newer nest wired although the field of view is better on the hello.
I didn't like the circle effect on ring and the notification delay along with the snapshots. 24/7 recording is huge and once you have it, it's hard to turn away.
Definitely not thrilled about it but I wish there was another doorbell camera that does 24/7 recording.
Last week I tried to replace my Nest Doorbell (same model) by a Ring Doorbell Pro I got in a bundle from BHPhoto. The Ring system just could not keep wifi and kept dying on the same transformer where the Nest was running. Got another replacement unit and it does the same thing after running for 2-3 hours. Just put the old Nest back on again and it is working.
Going to just eat in the cost of the Nest Aware sub and use the Ring Alarm instead of the Nest Secure (which is going to retire next year).
My subscription was jumping from $50/yr to $80/yr. Not worth it for me at that price point. Went with a Blink camera instead. Works for me and is much cheaper.
