35's and 55's just seem to clutter up the gym more. They add an additional limbs on weight trees, for example. Often times gyms have trees and other storage with not enough limbs. The result is that weights are more commonly misplaced and disorganized.
For a similar analogy, think of change/coins. In the US we've got 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 cent coins. Having 35 or 70 cent coins, for example, seems excessive. They'd make things worse.

And to be honest, I think a lot of home gym owners with limited space might appreciate the insight that buying a set with 35's and 55's might be a mistake they hadn't considered. I got my 35's 15 years when I bought a 300lbs set from Dick's. They've sat idle almost the whole time. I personally wish someone had suggested to me that I avoid them.
P.S. If you are concerned for me, don't be. I've already got 250 lbs in bumpers at home. My original post was for a discussion. Not to help me figure out whether to purchase this deal or not.

I would agree with you, but it really depends what exercises you're doing and what fidelity you need. Going up 50lbs between sets doesn't work for everyone or every exercise
If they are going to do olympic weightlifting or crossfit etc where they will be dropping the weight a lot from say couple of inches or ft or so above the ground a lot then these will not last at all as they are poorly made. The metal ring in center come off, these and cheap ones are generally not made of all one rubber piece they are joined at edge so they can come off or start crumbling up.
If you are just doing basic strength training with squats deadlifts etc and will always ensure to put them down properly without dropping they will serve you well as they weigh same as any other weight including rogue (maybe with a little high tolerance limit)
