Basically 20$ off the ironwood, normal price for 10tb. You can find wd 14s around 200 when they're on sale

Anyone know if you can mix and match this with the ironwolf non-pro drives in a NAS or will a mismatch cause poor performance? I'm using my NAS as a plex server and looking to upgrade some 10TB drives to 16TB. I already have one 16TB ironwofl non-pro drive.

It all depends. mismatch of performance will typically reduce performance, but by how much? Probably as low as the weakest link.

You can mix/match those. It's not recommended in a corp. environment but on a home NAS, you'll be fine.

This is an enterprise drive. Recert by HGST (WD), 3 year warranty. You can get a 14 around $115.

I run WD red plus's and Ironwolf's in my NAS and I have never had issues. I use my NAS for plex as well.

i need to set up a NAS to store up to 12 tb of files. someone told me I need SSDs that cost 1800 (synology enterprise SAT5210 7tb).

I know from my home computing just what a difference ssds make for speed and I need transfer speeds to be fast when people need to move 10 gb of data. But how big of a speed hit is it if we did HDD? Any other recommendations to check out to lower the cost?

Is your nas, switch, cabling and devices all connected to 10Gb or 2.5Gb? (versus 1Gb)?

If not an all SSD NAS will cost much more without seeing much benefit.

You can get them even cheaper than that. Buy used on ebay.

I've never used these. Are they good for NAS? It looks so, but we dont know if we're gonna get something with 10K hours and ready to die
