The Sistem51 is really misunderstood. Yes it is not realistically serviceable, but it was never designed to be. If you want a "repairable" automatic at this price point, you're usually dealing with near-disposable Seiko movements that make more time and financial sense to replace than actually repair.

This is purely my opinion but I would not get this watch. This watch is using the C15.111 movement and from what I've researched, it is basically Swatch's Sistem 51 movement, which isn't serviceable. So once the watch stops moving it's a toss-out type of a watch. Free-sprung movement is nice but the fact that the movement is made cheaply and also that it technically only has 51 parts is a bit scary. The power reserve is nice I will say which is over 72 hours.

I'm going to be a bit pedantic here, but your phrasing makes it sound like "it breaks and you're out of luck."

The Swissmatic (C15.111) watches can be repaired - and apparently they're repaired quite rapidly all things considered - but that "repair" simply means replacing the movement with a "refurbished" movement and your "old" movement gets sent out to be refurbed somehow.

Personally, I'm a big fan of Swiss watches. But then again, I find that I wear my Apple Watch more than I ever wore any of my other mechanical/quartz watches (not all Swiss...)

But if I was in the market for an inexpensive automatic Swiss watch, for $163, I'd certainly consider this one. It offers quite a bit for the price (which is normally in the $300-$400 range - although that seems... overpriced.) However, if I was looking for an heirloom-type of watch, well, ok, this wouldn't be it.

This is purely my opinion but I would not get this watch. This watch is using the C15.111 movement and from what I've researched, it is basically Swatch's Sistem 51 movement, which isn't serviceable. So once the watch stops moving it's a toss-out type of a watch. Free-sprung movement is nice but the fact that the movement is made cheaply and also that it technically only has 51 parts is a bit scary. The power reserve is nice I will say which is over 72 hours.

Really? I've seen CK watches with an ETA mvmt on here for under $100 (although it's been a while since i've seen that deal). Yes you get the Tissot name on here over CK, but this shouldn't cost this much with a non-serviceable mvmt.

Tissot will technically "service" the movement (ie throw it out and install a new one) for $130. Whether this is or is not economical is up to the owner, but you don't necessarily have to throw away the watch if something goes wrong with the movement.

My intent was to dispel the notion that the Sistem51 is somehow inherently "bad". Yes, movements like Seiko's NH35 have a bigger following and a lot of people tinker with it, but for the average person, it's simply more economical to swap out either movement when it breaks or falls way outside spec. In that sense, I would argue both are very much disposable.

I agree that this is a good watch for this price, and I also agree that this isn't what most people would describe as worthy of being purchased with the intention of passing down to the next generations.

Yup these other tissots look much nicer. Not a fan of the font on the OP watch

Keep in mind this watch is cheaper than just the service on most automatics. I see this as a great beater watch, stocking stuffer, party door-prize watch, etc. You can't beat it for the price.

I owned this watch briefly and returned. Two issues:

1. The dial is VERY plain. Printed and cheap looking even for the price. Looks similar to a $30-50 timex.

2 40mm with long lugs wears very big for a dress watch. With the large plain dial - this would've worked way better at 36-38mm IMHO.

Good price for a Tissot if you really like the style and have a bigger wrist though.

Looks like a timex meant for seniors with bad eyesight.

Consider that 99.8% of people don't care about watches and spending big money on them is probably not going to impress anybody.

It's funny hearing people talk about accurate mechanical watches when quartz has had the best one beat for decades.
