This is exactly what has led to TI's dominance. Even as an owner of a firmware-upgraded Casio fx, I'd still primarily recommend a Casio model to a calculator enthusiast. For the average student I'd generally start with identifying the TI model appropriate to the task.

Good luck!
Jon

A great deal on a solid bang-for-buck calculator. At the same time, most everyone shopping this price will likely opt for something like the slightly lesser TI-30X IIS [amazon.com] or possibly a deal on the TI-36 Pro.

I own both of those TI calculators, but also own a Casio fx-9750Gll upgraded to the Casio fx-9860GII firmware.

Good luck!

As an alternative, Amazon also has the TI-30XIIS for $9.88. Just realized someone else posted the same earlier.

Likely all are about the same and it's more about following along with the teacher and knowing the button layout.

Great calculator.

The pink and blue are also on sale for this price. I much prefer to have vibrant colored stuff to help me locate on a cluttered desk, or immediately identify as my own.

As a programmer, I would prefer a calculator with hexadecimal. I don't see this option with the TI, unless I missed it....

Curious to know at what grade does school require a scientific calculator.

Been this price at Amazon for the last few months. Probably because of back to school. But the price waves between this and $12. This is one of the best calculators for 10 bucks for school age kids. For adults, just download an app.

Looks like a more advanced version of the Casio I had for eighth grade algebra. I still use that thing 25 years later. If I need something more advanced, I either need NumPy or someone with a math minor.
