This pops up regularly but AFAIK, only the first few batches of IKEAs were eneloop equivalent, then (after probably creating the reputation they wanted), they switched back to some lower quality ones, classic mid term bait and switch. I don't have the info off hand, but if you plan on byuing the LADDA, don't go on old or re-baked youtube reviews. Just my 2c

Laddas sold in the US are made in Japan and are precharged, low self discharge.

Only one factory in Japan makes LSD batteries.

Yeah, since March these spiked in price for whatever reason and now they're just back to the normal ~$17 that they were for years.
This ain't a slickdeal but if you need 'em now, this ain't a "ripoff" price either.
Please don't upvote this and normalize inflation (but thanks to OP just the same, effort is appreciated).

Because those ARE eneloops. Made in the same factory in Japan. But make sure they say "Made in Japan" on them. Ikea could always do a bait and switch just like Amazon did years ago with their basics batteries to give you cheap, crappy Chinese made cells.
LOL, by this logic, any phone made in the same factory that produces iPhone is iPhone 15 pro. I have seen this ridiculous claim any battery made in Japan is eneloop for years. I have many versions/brands made in Japan rechargeable batteries, they are not the same. The truth is, some are very close to eneloop, some are crap. It all depends on how much the buyers want to pay, as with anything in this world

I have 4 Eneloops Pros. I am thinking about getting the cheaper LADDAs from IKEA to use on my smart locks.

Anyone know if I will run in to an issue using a Panasonic charger (BQ CC17) to charge the LADDA batteries? Will it still offer the same overcharge protection?

And will I be taking a risk charging 2 LADDAs with 2 Eneloop Pros at the same time on said Panasonic charger?
No, issues using the Panasonic charger.

But most smart locks are designed for 1.5v alkaline, so they won't read battery capacity right if you use NIMH.

Get out of here with your lame straw man argument. You don't understand this industry. Go look up actual tests on these IKEA batteries and eneloops. They are the same.

The Ikea Ladda charger is basic, but pretty good at that. Affordable price, UL listed with overcharge protection etc. Good speed at charging (Output: 1.5V/ slot) and charges each battery independently from the rest (you need that!)

My BC700 and BC1000 from 10+ years ago are still going strong. If I had to replace them now, I'd probably go with a Powerex MH-C9000 [amazon.com], Tenergy TN456 [amazon.com], Opus BT-C2400 [amazon.com], or possibly SkyRC NC1500 [amazon.com] as a comparable unit that's available.

IKEA sells LADDA. It's a cheaper and performs the same as eneloop according to YouTuber's test.
I HATE where this came & how it has spread as I fell for it and was not pleased. My wonderful eneloops after MANY years of usage & recharges were finally losing life so I went to Ikea & bought 2 chargers and several AA & AAA Ladda batteries. Let me be crystal clear that the Laddas are NOT remotely close to being as good as eneloops by a large margin - performance, longevity, etc. End this false-hype & misinformation.

I had no idea that removable batteries were still in such high use, let alone capable of stirring up such tension.

Interesting. There were YouTube tests years ago that showed they had the same performance. Don't recall if it was same performance as regular eneloops or eneloop pros.

I vaguely remember in recent years seeing some Ikea Laddas made in China which would mean they're NOT eneloop rewraps.

About a month ago I was looking at Laddas on the Ikea website. They do not list country of manufacture. Found that odd as they used to show made in Japan. The pictures, however, do show made in Japan. Wonder if they are not listing the country of origin as they have more than one supplier or they still may have leftovers from China.

Wonder if it's possible that you got ones not made in Japan.

That's an issue with you and not the battery itself. 🤷
