This pops up regularly but AFAIK, only the first few batches of IKEAs were eneloop equivalent, then (after probably creating the reputation they wanted), they switched back to some lower quality ones, classic mid term bait and switch. I don't have the info off hand, but if you plan on byuing the LADDA, don't go on old or re-baked youtube reviews. Just my 2c

Laddas sold in the US are made in Japan and are precharged, low self discharge.

Only one factory in Japan makes LSD batteries.

Yeah, since March these spiked in price for whatever reason and now they're just back to the normal ~$17 that they were for years.
This ain't a slickdeal but if you need 'em now, this ain't a "ripoff" price either.
Please don't upvote this and normalize inflation (but thanks to OP just the same, effort is appreciated).

I just bought a few packs of batteries (AA and AAA) over the weekend from IKEA and they were all made in Japan.

That's an issue with you and not the battery itself. 🤷
I lose them in seasonal accessories, like battery powered Christmas lights and those stuffed animatronics. Then I find them again the next year, once I realize the batteries still in them.

All this arguing…. LADDA during the pandemic had mixed inventory in NA: made in japan and made in china. The new silver/grey wrapped, white top LADDA seem to all be made in Japan. If your local IKEA has still has all white LADDA then there is a good chance it's Made in China. Also, there were some speaker devices that came with LADDA in a bundle and those had Made In China LADDA as well.

The MIJ LADDA perform identically to Eneloop. Just like Eneloops however, you need to charge them with a good charger or you ruin the internal chemistry and get absolutely terrible performance.

Given Amazon co-mingles inventory, what are the chances of getting fake Eneloops?

5 years ago is a long time in term of production, the game in recent year has been to introduce lower quality product under the same product ID across a wide range of electronic and stuff. The change in LADDA production was talked about 2 years ago, and most reviews online refer to data older than that.
I got myself some sony cycle energy that were themselves supposed to be eneloop rewrapped, and there were a disaster compare to real eneloop from japan.

just ran into this site : https://eneloop101.com/batteries/...batteries/ may interest some that are trying to decide what to buy. Use at your own risk, I have no idea how accurate this is.
Walmart buyer pressure created this process to sell name brand items exact same model for cheaper. I think it was Fruit of the Loom that cut costs on underwear by using cheaper wastebands and half as much stitching in a Mexican factory first. Then Samsung and others created parallel assembly lines using cheaper electronic components with less quality soldering.

Now seems it's expanding to create brand quality awareness and then exploit it in similar ways.

It's like what I've heard about with prestige brand factory outlet stores years ago, that the merchandise in the outlet stores are not the same quality, but made cheaper for sale in just the outlet stores. I don't have personal experience with that since I very rarely buy prestige designer name items like Coach and Gucci, though I did by a Brooks Brothers jacket over 20 years ago at one of their outlet stores.

Regarding the batteries, I guess the sale's over, price when back up. I'll have to check out the Ladda batteries in person next time I'm near a Ikea store to see if they're still made in Japan.

That beats finding old Alkaline batteries with leaking corrosion in the dancing Santa LOL, and the left-in Eneloop would probably still have a working charge.

Are these batteries any good for a solar powered outdoor light?
