Do NOT buy these!
I bought the previous deal in Late Aug. Just tried to activate and all the phone has NO service plan. Now Im getting the customer service BS when I call tracfone that tracfone and tracfone ebay are different. Tracfone ebay not even responding to my ebay messages.
Please check the previous thread. Lots of people are dealing with this issue.
Or if you do order, activate soon in case you need to file a return.

Glad to see the price of the annual TF addon/renewal plans drop slightly. I ordered this a few weeks ago for a few bucks more, then the phones arrived w/o plans attached, msged the ebay seller account and they were able to add it to the phones after sale. This was the first time this happened to me, and I've been a TF customer for a few years now. So the original product could use better quality control on TF's end, it ultimately got resolved w a bit of patience.
UPDATE: Make sure you file a return request to start the msg with ebay seller, maybe they dont respond to regular msgs as often.
What would these be most useful for? Serious question
Well, they sound great for my MiL who rarely used her phone for the longest time, including turning it off when she didn't actively issue it (as much as try to recommend that she doesn't).
Also seems decent for a kid who perhaps you don't want to have full smartphone capabilities and/or just needs to communicate pickup. (My kids aren't old enough yet, so just a hunch)

I'm looking for a cheap TracFone for a family member to have once he's released from prison. But I'd prefer not to activate until just before release, so does anyone know how long we have to activate?

Apart from being good for seniors or maybe kids you don't want to give a smartphone to yet, it can also be a good thing to throw in your glovebox for trips if it uses a different cell tower than your regular phone (some plans will have a dead zone in a given area but another carrier won't). Plus if your phone was lost or broken, you'd still have a phone in an emergency. Lastly, it gives you a number to use if you need to give people a number (maybe when filling out a form for info or something online) but don't want them calling your main phone. I have GV for that, but I could see some might want it to do that with the tracfone.
guys who knows how long we can wait before activation

Generally the recommendation is < 1 year. However, these Orbics aren't well made and might not (anecdotally) boot up out of the box. The Alcatel/TCL Flips are better if you need reliability. https://www.ebay.com/itm/28528250...SwKnxkpcEi
Or buy both, the Flip for the phone, the Orbics for the service time.

I've gone well over a year and activated without a problem.
