While a super price, buying a battery end of season with a 90 day warranty, and its refurbished....

I guess if you buy 3 and at least 2 work for a few years you are in the green.

Id be pissed if these were left dead so long that would not charge, so the refurbisher just jump started them with another pack till they took a charge and called her good.

60v is great, but the 2.5Ah is pretty small. I have the 21" mower and it takes 2 x 5Ah batteries to mow and edge. I'd need 4 of these batteries vs. 2. Nearly negates the price advantage and the refurb definitely gives me pause.

UPDATE - I looked up the Feb '23 deal. $99 for NEW 60v 4.0Ah batteries.

Unless you absolutely need and can use these smaller batteries, I'd hold out for the 4.0, 5.0 or 6.0Ah versions.

The 4ah + last longer, but are heavier than the 2ah, if that makes a difference for using it in an edger. It makes a difference for me.

These are good for people who prefer lightweight vs runtime. I love how light my trimmer is with my 2.5... but I usually just use my 5.0 bc 2.5 never had enough juice to complete all the trimming.

I have 3 5 ah batteries. Unfortunately only one works 100%. Picked it up from Amazon seller was actually easier to work with than green works in solving issues.

The 90 day warranty is just as useless as the full one. They do not honor their warranty's.

These do work in other tools, like a weed wacker, where you may care more about weight than runtime.

DTO tests returned batteries and as long as they have 80% capacity they sell them as refurb. This is probably a similar situation.

FWIW, Woot has the 40v 12" trimmer with 4ah battery and charger for less than the cost of the battery right now. I might snag that as I recently replaced my 4ah battery and my 2ah isn't all that great any longer. It's going to cost way too much to move into Ryobi.

I have had good luck with their warranty department. Had a nearly 3yr old battery only performing about 30% of a matching battery I bought at the same time. I shared that I charged and stored both indoors. Rep had to escalate it but they sent me a new 5.0ah 60V to replace it and let me keep the original. Whole process took about 20 mins. I think it helped that I answered their charging & storage questions consistent with their expectations.

I went the whole way down the rabbit hole comparing brands, power, ratings/reviews, cost, warranty on electric push mowers (yt, consumer reports, etc). I'm confident that the Greenworks 80v is the best balance of power/value/performance bar none. I'm opting for Greenworks 82v commercial stuff because it boosts power by 66% more on the push mowers (2500 watts vs 1500 watts on the push mowers). Other brands have nicer features but don't perform as well. Only Milwaukee's $1k mower is on par in terms of performance, and it's just on par. I was focused on the push mowers but I'd bet the trimmers etc follow that same pattern. Costco has 8 year warranties if you buy Greenworks through them. If/when you decide to upgrade in the future. Just surprising - Ego, Ryobi, Snapper, Husqvarna are not really worth it.

I did a teardown of one of these found in the curb. The electrical engineering leaves a lot to be desired. There was a halfway attempt at balance charging but if a single 18650 cell fails, the whole battery will go soon after.

I wish these week engineers with an eye to sustainability. Right now, you're better off with plug in for power and longevity
