the AMD 7840HS is on par with an I7-13700H but still slower than an 13700 HX.

7840HS uses 54w compare to 13700H uses 45w

yes its an slim version but still 1259 + tax is a lot for just an RTX 4060

It just matters what you are looking for. If all you are concerned about is specs, you can absolutely do better in terms of price. For a premium build quality laptop with a 4060, this is a great price.

This is an amazing laptop. Checks every box except:
No ethernet port
Only one ram slot is upgradeable

The 4060 is perfect for most and avoids the insane price premium of a 4080 or 4090.
This is an awesome review outlining this exact model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STKZKJx3A0w

Uses up to 54w. Real world usage is much lower resulting in much longer battery life.
This review isn't side by side but the same reviewer has hands-on with both 2023 7 and 7i.

I did the same today.
Got a few bucks more off through PerksAtWork.
Might not be the cheapest ever, but it seems like a great combination of build quality, power, portability, battery life, and price.

May be you stop thinking any laptop having a Slim before it, is a premium and Thin Laptop. Legion Slim 5 is a new introduction in 2023 and guess what, it is neither thin nor light and nor premium. It is just a rebranding of 2022's budget series Legion 5 (Non Pro) model with full plastic build, same thickness as any other gaming laptop and 5.3 lbs heavy. Only change is the 16:10 screen. Check some reviews. And here is one for you: -

The one which is actually premium Thin & Light laptop is the Legion Slim 7, both the last years and this year's version, with full metal build, slimmer and slightly every way than the normal Legion Pro 5 series.

This laptop is no doubt is a good laptop but there are plenty of laptops available with better build quality and some with higher configuration. than this at the same price. And You can actually buy the normal Legion 5 Pro at cheaper price for the same configuration, with better Processor 7745HX.
This is the Slim 7...

I think Asus still sells that "~slim~" laptop that 1" thick and 5 1/2 lbs.

The Legion 5 Pro that you are talking about is $1249 on sale, which is only $30 cheaper. The Legion 7 has an AMD 7840 vs 7745 (pretty much the same as the 7840), a 240hz 500 nits display vs a 165hz 300 nits display, a 99wh battery vs an 80wh battery and slightly faster memory. It is worth it to pay the extra $30 to get the Legion 7. The build quality is also amazing compared to most other laptop makers. The display and battery upgrade alone make it worth the extra $30 in my opinion.

Not sure if I'm just not understanding your intent but I'm confused why you said all of that to me.

I never mentioned the Slim 5, I certainly don't think any laptop with Slim in its name means it is a premium laptop.

Which laptop has a better build quality and configuration for the price? Consider the materials used, the size of the laptop, the weight, this Legion Slim 7 2023 is hard to beat. Again, it matters what you are looking for. If you are looking for strictly a desktop replacement, you can do better. I use my laptop at my desk, on the couch and on the go, I wanted something that looks nice, feels nice, isn't bulky, isn't heavy and has enough power for everything I do, work and game.

I think Lenovo has been doing great for years but this year especially the Legion lineup of laptops seem to have nailed it across the board. I've tried a 2023 Legion 5 Pro, Legion 7 Pro as well as my Legion Slim 7 which is my favorite laptop, ever.

The 7745HX really isn't that much faster than the 7840hs but the battery life is considerably worse.

Really interested to hear which laptop you think has better build quality and performance for the price.

Just to clarify, is the SODIMM slot empty by default (e.g. 16GB built-in) or populated (8+8GB in DC mode from the factory)?

It is my mistake and I somehow thought this is the Slim 5, probably got confused while looking at some other deal. For Slim 7, this price is good enough. In fact, in my post said that only.

The wattage values that AMD and Intel are not equal to actual power consumption.

The 7840hs is much more efficient in light usage.
