These suck and go bad in a few months if you actually use them every day.

I used it every day and the ceramic coating flakes off the inside of the mug. Technically it's safe but the cup looks awful inside and something about knowing the ceramic continues to flake off in my drink bothered me.

I stopped using mine and got a dumb version of a electric warming mug from Walmart for $40 and it has lasted me over 2+ years with no paint or coating flaking. The inside looks a little scratched up but that's to be expected. No flaking off substance though.

I would not recommend this unless you really need Bluetooth and app connection

Feel free to look up ember mub flaking you'll see it's super common. At least it was on the Ember 2 mug I had, not sure they've fixed it in newer models.

Mine lasted about two years of daily use before it started flaking. Threw it in the trash. Wouldn't but it again for full retail, especially considering the MSRP price increase.

I know these stories of flaking are true, but I've used a mug2 for almost 4 years, multiple times a day (my wife used to steal it as well so sometimes even 4-5 times a day before I bought one for her), and not a single problem with the coating. If you wash gently and stir gently, I don't think you're likely to have an issue. I'm even impressed the battery has held up this well. Genuinely it has been one of my favorite gifts ever, especially because I would have never bought one for myself.

Got this as a gift last xmas and use it twice a day. Keeps about 8 ounces of coffee hot for about 45 minutes. The app is the worst, don't expect anything but frustration with it. No flaking issues but I drink my coffee black so a spoon has never touched my mug.

Waste of money. Get a 32 oz thermos for $15. Those things will keep your coffee warm for more than a day. $54 for a small cup that warms your tea is a waste.

Scored in MN area:
14oz Rose Gold $53.99
14oz White $74.99 (probably will return)
and....

Ember Travel Mug2 for $59.99 !!! (MSRP $200).

Cleared them out of course. great gifts. I've used mine for nearly four years, daily. Flaking is a problem on my white one (don't go with white if you care about appearance).

I use mine all the time with no issue. Maybe you got a lemon.

Gonna reply since it seems a lot of people haven't had any issues whatsoever with their mugs.

And I don't doubt that.

So let me try and explain how I used it and maybe that led to its demise.

I drink mainly chai which is milk heavy, and even when I have coffee it has some milk or half and half.

I think what caused the flaking is that I would sip on my drink throughout the day and eventually there would come a time where there isn't a lot left but I wouldn't chug the last sip because closer to the heating element it was hot. And unless I remembered to turn off the heat sometimes I would leave the mug for maybe an hour or more still on the charger so it was still heating.

The result was baked on milk solids where hard to clean and required a little elbow grease.

Now I don't doubt that if you were to mainly drink black coffee or tea only that yes you could use this and never have it flake because you can just wipe it clean with water and some soap.

My gripe is that exactly though, using it with milk products is a fair assumption for something meant to be used with coffee and the mug isn't dishwasher safe. So has to always be hand washed so yeah some people are going accidentally over time scratch the surface finish.

If anyone wants the mug go for it. I have just been much happier with an alternative.

Think it might have been how I used it. When I looked up the problem it seemed a ton of others also had the same issue. Lots of people replied saying they got free replacements as well.

Guess I will ask for a free replacement from Ember too.

Stuff like this actually makes great gifts. No one would buy these things normally. But once they get one they literally can't live without it. If my house is burning down, this Ember mug ist on the top 5 things I'm saving
Same - thought it was an overpriced gadget when I got it as a gift, my first inclination was to return it. I figured I'd give it a shot and now I'm hooked.

If you drink coffee and need to let it cool before drinking it but always forget to check and it gets cold, these are a nice idea. We've had two, they both flaked, and the app is the most frustrating thing in the world. We stopped using ours because they just simply don't connect anymore, no amount of reset or updates fixes it. Android in particular. Check the app store reviews

Would LOVE to pick one of these up for the wife, she wants to steal mine lol
You can check Target website if it's in stock at your store. If it says 1 in stock, that typically means (from personal experience) there are 2 available at store.

Have the travel mug when it first came out, doesn't last more than 15 minutes. Have 2 of the travel mugs and both experience this low battery life

The app for these is terrible. The cup disconnects and never will reconnect to it. Take a look at the reviews in the different app stores.
Agreed on app being terrible. Fortunately the light on the mug still shows cooling/heating/at temp. Connect once. Set your temperature and never open the app again.

Solid deal. There are other generic products that do the same thing for $40-50 and this puts Ember in a similar price range.

It keeps coffee warm. The battery doesn't last quite long enough but if you use the coaster, you can forget your drink and sip on it all morning.

Don't use metal utensils or harsh cleaners, which is common sense for every coated item in your kitchen.

The app isn't great but there's no real use for it after initial setup. Set your temperature, pick an LED color if you like and... that's it.
