I saw one of these in Goodwill for $20 this week. I passed. I mean... wtf?

BTW, you are not a true SD'er unless you frequent GW.

TBH $50-60 feels like a fair price for thing. $150+ for it is way too expensive.

My household has owned a total of 3 of these. Only one got flaking. Supposedly newer ones are more durable. I use it daily, drink black so don't use spoons, wash it carefully, and the battery life is still excellent even after well over a year (although I often keep it on the dock). I love it. The app connectivity can absolutely suck (on android anyway), but if you set it up the first time to whatever temp you need, the only time you need the app is if you pour near room temp coffee into it and it doesn't detect it should start warming. Then you need the app to start it.

It's awesome. Wouldn't want to live without it.

Gotta go with stainless steel or (I assume) copper is good too. I have stainless and it's holding up great. Original one flaked flaked like crazy after a while.

I used to fantasize about getting one of these until I got a quality vacuum insulated cup. Can't fathom paying for or dealing with this sort of thing now. Anyone who has experimented with both that can give perspective?
As someone with both, it's different. I have the 10oz ember, not the 14oz though.

The problem with the insulated cup is when you first put coffee in it, it's way too hot. If you completely keep it insulated, it'll stay "too hot" for a long time. So your best way is to open it up until it cools down to the temperature you like it, then cover it again otherwise it'll cool down too fast. This isn't a HUGE deal, but it's still more work and if you don't remember to cover it at the right temperature, your drink will still cool down out of the ideal range.

The ember... you just wait a little and it'll drop down to the perfect temperature and then stay there until you finish. But that's the problem. "Until you finish"... for me and a 10 oz cup that's like 3-5 minutes. In 3-5 minutes, the coffee is still hot without the ember. I only think "ooh this thing is great!" when (1) it's actually working and (2) I drink half, get distracted by something and don't get back to drinking it like 20+ minutes later. Then when you drink it you're like "That's great!" It's such a niche occurrence for me though so because of that, I find the 10oz version to be almost useless. The 14oz one will fare a bit better but for the way I drink hot drinks, I would say it's pretty useless until you hit 20oz+ range.

The slower/less you drink though the smaller the size that would be acceptable (most likely).

I am in mn and was looking for some info like this. Thank you for posting something about the actual deal.
$89.99 in Apple Valley, MN. I bought the last rose gold one, still $60 off and they will price match for 30 days if it drops locally.

Take it to a scanner and check it. The shelf was still marked $149 in my Target, but the scanner showed $89.99. Apparently it depends on the region or each Target as the price varies so much.

These suck and go bad in a few months if you actually use them every day.

I used it every day and the ceramic coating flakes off the inside of the mug. Technically it's safe but the cup looks awful inside and something about knowing the ceramic continues to flake off in my drink bothered me.

I stopped using mine and got a dumb version of a electric warming mug from Walmart for $40 and it has lasted me over 2+ years with no paint or coating flaking. The inside looks a little scratched up but that's to be expected. No flaking off substance though.

I would not recommend this unless you really need Bluetooth and app connection

Feel free to look up ember mub flaking you'll see it's super common. At least it was on the Ember 2 mug I had, not sure they've fixed it in newer models.
Wife gave me one as a gift 2+ years ago and I've used it everyday since. I've read all of these complaints before, but that hasn't been my experience. I suspect this is because they resolved some of these issue before I got mine.

At $149 these things are WAY expensive for a coffee mug. But damn if it isn't one of the best gifts my wife has ever gotten me. Debating picking this up as a backup when the one I have eventually DOES go bad.

Edit: meh, none in my area. Oh well.

I would need the exact opposite, an actively cooled cup to make my coffee drinkable faster without burning my tongue.

We've had our black and white ones for a couple years now and the only issue is my charging plate broke. I set the mug on it without making sure the bottom was dry and now one of the charging pins is stuck down.
If your coating came off you should contact them or maybe you're cleaning it wrong?
