I used it every day and the ceramic coating flakes off the inside of the mug. Technically it's safe but the cup looks awful inside and something about knowing the ceramic continues to flake off in my drink bothered me.
I stopped using mine and got a dumb version of a electric warming mug from Walmart for $40 and it has lasted me over 2+ years with no paint or coating flaking. The inside looks a little scratched up but that's to be expected. No flaking off substance though.
I would not recommend this unless you really need Bluetooth and app connection
Feel free to look up ember mub flaking you'll see it's super common. At least it was on the Ember 2 mug I had, not sure they've fixed it in newer models.

I saw one of these in Goodwill for $20 this week. I passed. I mean... wtf?
BTW, you are not a true SD'er unless you frequent GW.
It's awesome. Wouldn't want to live without it.

The problem with the insulated cup is when you first put coffee in it, it's way too hot. If you completely keep it insulated, it'll stay "too hot" for a long time. So your best way is to open it up until it cools down to the temperature you like it, then cover it again otherwise it'll cool down too fast. This isn't a HUGE deal, but it's still more work and if you don't remember to cover it at the right temperature, your drink will still cool down out of the ideal range.
The ember... you just wait a little and it'll drop down to the perfect temperature and then stay there until you finish. But that's the problem. "Until you finish"... for me and a 10 oz cup that's like 3-5 minutes. In 3-5 minutes, the coffee is still hot without the ember. I only think "ooh this thing is great!" when (1) it's actually working and (2) I drink half, get distracted by something and don't get back to drinking it like 20+ minutes later. Then when you drink it you're like "That's great!" It's such a niche occurrence for me though so because of that, I find the 10oz version to be almost useless. The 14oz one will fare a bit better but for the way I drink hot drinks, I would say it's pretty useless until you hit 20oz+ range.
The slower/less you drink though the smaller the size that would be acceptable (most likely).

At $149 these things are WAY expensive for a coffee mug. But damn if it isn't one of the best gifts my wife has ever gotten me. Debating picking this up as a backup when the one I have eventually DOES go bad.
Edit: meh, none in my area. Oh well.

If your coating came off you should contact them or maybe you're cleaning it wrong?
