I'm almost 40yrs old, and I've seen and watch TONS of movies, including being an AMC stubs member. A lot of people are slamming me but I watched this movie at the theater without having any expectation of it. And the movie made me laugh, cry at certain points uncontrollably, Sci-Fi elements, action. I think it also had to do with in upbringing of my childhood and never feeling I was enough. The constant struggle of the wife always looking for more, taking her husband for an idiot, when she had everything she needed all along. It was a very deep sentimental experience for me Coupled with the fact I'm a huge action and Sci-Fi fan with loads of hilarious ridiculousness. I've never seen a movie where, I'm laughing and crying at the same time. Paid full price upon release and have seen it 4 times total.
EEAAO #1 and probably Marcel the Shell with Shoes on were my favorite movies of 2021

I, like most of you, thought the movie was only okay upon first watch. I mean, the cheesy action by itself, however unique, can only be entertaining for so long, especially if the audience don't grasp the broader context at first (I certainly didn't).
But after seeing a critic's commentary/analysis about it, I came to understand there is a much deeper meaning in terms of nihilism to the movie that I didn't get at first. I think most critics rated high based on this deeper message, not the cheesy action parts. The point of the movie is to be ridiculously absurd to show nihilism, but the ultimate message is that meaning in life is what you make of it.
Actually paid to watch the movie in a theater. Walked out in the middle
On Showtime, had to turn it off on the dildo-numchucks scene
Tried to watch again, but gave up again.
I guess I don't get it..
It is an absurdist comedy drama with scifi and action elements that doesn't make sense if you take it literally. It is similar to other absurdist comedy movies like Being John Malkovich where things are bizzare and the characters/events are more figurative rather than literal or reality.
The ending is what ties it together though and the film is dense with a lot of different ideas and philosophies. I thought it was soso the first time and liked it much more on my second time watching it.

This was the most confusing movie I've ever seen. I feel like many people said they liked it because most of the critics said they liked it. It's kind of like those paintings that are just swirly lines on a canvas that don't look like anything but lots of people say it's beautiful. It's not, it's just shit.
People liked the movie long before critics got involved. This is an indie A24 production and there was a lot of buzz and positive feedback among indie film buffs when it came out - like 8 months before the Oscars happened and before it hit mainstream.
The movie is rather difficult to watch as it is an absurdist comedy drama packed full of a lot of different ideas. After my first viewing, I thought it was too bizzare and thought it was a soso movie. It took me two viewings to understand it more and enjoy it.

I've only watched the movie once but really enjoyed it. But think I'll wait to see if the 4k hits $10 or less (maybe during BF sales).
Also I wish people would stop crap posting in movie threads saying they hated the movie when obviously the deal isn't for them. Taste in movies is 100% subjective.
