Great tomahawk that will do all the camp chopping chores you need, plus it is suitable for throwing if you are in to that. I owned one and lost it in a move. I think my daughter has it at her house, but she swears she does not (are you listening, Emily!) I should jump on this price, but I've already spent this month's fun money. I shoot black powder rifles and this is a great accoutrement for your outfit.

Is this more for chopping or splitting? Or in between?

I have one. The head is a friction fit to the handle. It does not have a wedge or ring holding it in place. I would be leery using like you would a normal camp axe, if that is what you normally use. Cold Steel designed it this way so if you break the handle after throwing it, it would be easy to replace.

A 3.25" blade length is pretty small. The handle length is 22" so this blade will look even smaller. Functionality just isn't there, imo. Pass.

Pair with a Bowie and you can start re-enactment of scenes out of last of the mohicans

Thanks for the input. So this is more of a throwing axe and less proper axe for work?

edit: on sale for 40% off is the more utilitarian Cold Steel All-Purpose Axe with Hickory Handle

Hells bells!!! Go get a #7 drill and drill through ax head into wood around 1/3 deep. Run you a 1/4 -20 tap into to and get a bolt shorter than the depth you tapped it. And it's not going anywhere now throw the bitch all ya like!
