Also got some last sale. The work well, but look and feel like they are priced. Overall I would recommend especially at this price.

I bought these before. These are crappy knives. Go with global and buy a decent knife. These are not.

Care to explain? Kai and its sub-brands (Shun) can be overpriced like crazy but I've never heard that they are actually crappy knives, especially at this price point.

I bought a diamond sharpening stone for a nicer knife I have, but needed something to break in the stone and to practice on. This is an excellent opportunity! In for a couple of the cheaper ones.

.5% carbon means a medium carbon knife, not a high carbon knife. Not that it probably matters for such a cheap product.

They all appear to be mid-grade steels, though knife snobs would probably call it low grade and these knives "entry level." The price difference is mostly for the look and feel of the handle, I would assume. I have the Wasabi bread knife and have no complaints with that. It comes up a little short for artisan breads because of the soft scalloped edge vs the hard crust, but I don't like the more aggressive serrated knives with the spikes and don't eat much artisan bread anyway.

The most important thing when it comes to knives is learning how to sharpen them. Get a decent whetstone setup and once you get it right, you'll be glad you did.
