Baseus is the closest brand I would compare to Anker and their prices are pretty competitive. I've always received high quality stuff from this brand.
USB C has allowed "docks" do become almost universal yet of course nothing is actually docking any more.
TLDR: the word is a carryover from the ye olde days.
