Disney should have followed this for 7/8/9...

The Thrawn trilogy is great. It's about 30 years old, so no Disney Star Wars garbage. The audio books of this series are also exceptionally well done. You may want to start with "Heir to the Empire" though.

Most Excellent.

Now I have to just wait for The Last Command to be on sale.

The Heir to the Empire Trilogy (rebranded as The Thrawn Trilogy in legends format) is what revitalized Star Wars and brought about the renaissance of the 90's. Besides being a very fine read, what make's Zahn's writing unique is that he is writing Star Wars as science fiction. Many of the other works that would follow from that time period are written as science fantasy. (Of course, Disney Star Wars is written as garbage.)

The Trilogy really is a must-read.

This is true, but be sure you get the full length ones read by Marc Thompson. There are also abridged editions read by Denis Lawson (Wedge in the OT and briefly in Rise of Skywalker), but they are not the whole story and, in all honesty, not as engaging. Thompson's voice is just great.

This is the second book in a trilogy and you really need to start with the first one "Heir to the Empire" which is currently only $3.99 for the Kindle version.

The books in this series are really the best Star Wars books ever written. I wish these had been made in to Episodes 7, 8, and 9 a few years after the original trilogy was released in theatres, they would have been as good as the original trilogy movies.

Zahn is a master writer and really writes the characters Luke, Han, Leia, etc. to think and act as you feel like they would. I've read several other Star Wars books from different authors and sometimes the characters are written in a way that just doesn't feel right, but Zahn absolutely nails them, and comes up with new and interesting characters as well.

The Thrawn trilogy was the best of the post-movie books.

Man, I wish there was a way to block all comments complaining about Disney. It's incessant. Were there problems with the movies? Sure. Was Rise of Skywalker truly abysmal? Yes. But good lord, we get it. The new Thrawn books in the Disney canon are also good, I really enjoyed them.

Thank you so much!

FYI, it is also available on Books on Google Play [google.com] for the same price (for those that have some opinion rewards money they need to get rid of)

Where does this fall chronologically with the thrown ascendancy trilogy, or is it a different canon?

This comes a few years after Return of the Jedi, long enough for the New Republic to be established. Leia and Han just got married. Thrawn was out of town when the Empire fell, but comes back from a mission in the Unknown Regions.

Would be slick if it included the audio book but it doesn't.
