It looks as if the Elac UB5 three way by Andrew Jones is also on sale for $254. Which is a three way speaker vs these which are a two way. Not sure if that's a SD price but thought it might be worth noting ?

Definitely not perfect but mind-bogglingly cheap for what it can do. Would excel with equalization (e.g. with a Mac or PC or miniDSP) because it has a significant response bump above ~1.5 kHz

The Uni-Fi are great speakers, but according to most reviews are not the easiest to drive. Will require a good bit of power to get the most out of those.
Kinda weird response speaker, if you just bring down everything over 1.5Khz like just 2db it would prob be a pretty above avg speaker. Feels like elac coulda made this a $1000 speaker if they just put an extra $5 resistor on the tweeter

Those are previous generation. Ub52 is the new one, better drivers and design. Recently went down to about $345/pr on Amazon. I own the center and it's amazing (also have the dc52, the debut 5")

The AJ's may be worth the extra cost for that reason.
As someone pointed out both are not very inefficient (85/86 sensitivity, 4/6ohm).
They both tend to want/need higher power for optimal performance.
They both may not sound that great when underpowered IMO.
Their sound profile isn't for everyone.
If this is a blind buy, I would highly suggest seeing if you can listen to them at maybe BB 1st.

I have these. And the center as well.
These are really good buys at this price. These are not too bright, can be EQed (about 2db low at 1.5ghz), front facing port (can be kept close to walls but not too close), clear crisp sound. They don't depend much on the source to make energetic music. I found the KEF 150s to be more muffled compared to these. Also got good directivity as well. Cons- looks are dated, grille is cheap made and avoidable (I read that AJ recommended no grilled for these)etc.
If you want slightly bigger and arguably better, go for the DB62s. (I have seen some folks prefer the DB52s over the big bro)

ELAC speakers :
DB52s < DB62s < UB52s < DBR62s < UBR62s
Recently I've started seeing some sales on ELAC speakers (Last good ones were in Jun July I think but then this was not that low)
I bought open box for 200pr and about 135 for the center.
