Quick math assuming you are ok with Visible/Mint at $30/mo - overpaying by $45/mo for 36=$1620, that's what you are paying for the "free iphone".
I have an unlocked phone & pay $20 per month for service. Can't be happier.

I see that T-mobile has a promotion for an iPhone 14 for free when switching to t-mobile with 24 monthly bill credits and it says starting at $0 for 24 months with $0 down.
What does it mean "Receive up to $829.99 back via 24 monthly bill credits"
When I choose the iPhone 14 on tmobile's website and I choose skip trade in, the price goes from $0 to $30.42 monthly but stays at $0 due today, so I will get charged $730.08 in total after 24 months? Or I can still get it for free?
I have a tracfone number for 1 year that I got with one of the moto g stylus phones from the QVC deals here on SD, will I be able to use it to switch to T-mobile to get the iPhone 14 for free from them?
Depends on the area.
T-Mobile and Verizion are terrible in my area while AT&T is strong.
Is it worth an additional $200 to go from 256 GB to 512 GB?
I've done this upgrade through Costco 4 times. They pay more for porting in lines or creating a new account
We have 5+ lines at AT&T with one of the 20% discounts (Teacher/ Healthcare/ Military/ etc.).
We pay $22.50 each for the lowest unlimited plan, for 5-6 lines, plus about $5 tax each for $27.68
All lines get the same upgrades
Most of my upgrades are free after the $150 in Costco credits and the waived (actually refunded) activation fee with a cheap trade in. Samsung S7 trade for a Flip5 was a $75 phone plus tax, then $150 back.
If you look at the cost of an $800 phone, it comes to about $22 per month over 36 months. So basically it's pay $27 and get a free phone, or buy the phone and get almost free cell service, just pay the taxes
If i want a new phone, I can trade in my Samsung S23 or Flip5 at Samsung and get a new unlocked phone and keep the credits coming. If I wanted to switch, most major carriers would pay off the phones to get me to switch
+++
I don't want to get into the different carriers, the problem with credits, etc. Just not worth the energy.
I've had T-mobile, Verizon, Mint, Cricket etc. AT&T is the only carrier that really works at our house, and at our cottage in the UP of Michigan, so I'll stick with them
In fact, I switched back to AT&T from T-mobile when covid started with work from home. I could really only use wifi calling at home with T-mobile. After a couple of 12+ hour Xfinity outages it really didn't make sense for me any more :<)
Good luck

AT&T will ship you the phone
You will just have a slightly different promo code that identifies this as a Costco deal, with the extra perks
To start, just search for "AT&T " at Costco
They'll show you the available discounts with a link to shop at AT&T. You should see the same text about the discounts at AT&T after you click through
Think of how many ppl paid for 2mo of service (because first was free) and got $350ish of value from the $200gc and the AirPods, then left. High cost of customer acquisition and then leave after 2 months, not very good on their balance sheets tbh.
Looks like you have to add a NEW line to get the $100:
"Learn how to get $100 in bill credits + waived activation fee when you buy a new smartphone on a new wireless line. Other terms apply. "
Existing customers can get the $50 IF upgrade their plan:
"$50 in credits with upgrade of an existing line."
