I could see it maybe making sense with a 25% discount, but wouldn't it still be more expensive over 36 months than, say, Cricket, US Mobile, etc? If it's $10+ more/month for the AT&T plan you'd still be paying $400 extra to get the "free" phone, since you're tied to the 3 years of credits. I'm just guessing here so my math could be totally wrong, especially if you're on a family plan or something.

Red Pocket deal
phone: $899-200 (rebate) = $699
3 years of service: $1180 (1 year monthly and 2 1yr plans)
sell the old phone on Swappa: $250 credit (if it's in "fair" condition, could be more)
total: $1629

AT&T deal:
phone: $999-830 (36 bill credits) = $169
$75 plan - 25% for 36 months: $2025
total: $2194

Over 3 years it seems like you'd pay $565 more to go with the AT&T deal. I could see how the extra effort isn't worth it just to save ~$200 or so over the long term, but over 3 years you'd have almost paid for a 2nd phone just to get the one for $100. (unless my math is just wildly off, which is definitely possible)
Your math is off on the $75 a line. I pay $45 - 25% since I have 3 lines ($33.75 each line x3) = $101.75 + $7 tax = $108-112 a month. AT&T has 5 bars where I am.

has anyone seen trade-in deals for non unlimited lines? we've got 2 lines for $80 currently with more data than we can even use at this point. unless we could get on the senior plan it doesn't make much sense to choose unlimited for two people.

For att, I do not see the option to drop off the trade in device at att store. Anybody else not seeing this option as well?
Doesn't matter even though they mailed u the return label u can still take it to store. I did that on my last phone, no issues whatsoever

You dont have to pay for monthly for the first 1 year for redpocket. Its 3 months only, after that you can switch to the yearly plan, 10GB for 220 dollars. Redpocket offer is GSMA only, so you will still get the 5 bars as its using ATT sim.

To add to this…

I got US Mobile 100 days free + Mint 6 months $90 - $30 cash back, so in last 9 months, I have paid $30 for unlimited prepaid plan ($3/month for unlimited plan).

This was possible because I wasn't tied to any plan.

In the end, you be you… do what suits your needs. Prepaid works for me.

I pay $10/month for my cell service via spectrum. I bring my own phone.

I'd be overpaying for to buy this new iPhone.

I started with chat online and eventually scheduled a call with the guy I was chatting with. He is from AT&T, not Costco, not an affiliate.
I've tried 4 ATT reps and all have advised that this is an affiliate deal and the order will have to be cancelled and re ordered through affiliate links.

The fine print says minimum qualified plan is 75/mo. That's where they get you with these "free deals" - locking you in at high monthly rate for 3 yrs.

Quick math assuming you are ok with Visible/Mint at $30/mo - overpaying by $45/mo for 36=$1620, that's what you are paying for the "free iphone".
Autopay and paperless make $65

Called AT&T's phone line dedicated to Costco customers at 866-595-2661. Sat on hold for 45 minutes, which was the only painful part of the whole process. After getting through, it was a great experience.

The US based sales rep texted me their phone number in case we got disconnected.

I explained what I want:

I'm moving service to AT&T, trading two iPhone 12 Pro Max and two iPhone 12 for two iPhone 15 Pro Max and two iPhone 15 Pro, total of four lines. I want the Unlimited Premium plan, their best (and most expensive) plan.

He immediately emailed me a very easy to read quote that shows both their standard pricing and the pricing after all the Costco discounts and promotions are applied:

For four phone lines the normal data plan price is $60.00 per line, but a $10.00 monthly AutoPay & Paperless Billing Discount and $10.00 monthly Costco discount brings it down to $40.00 per line. So, total of $160.00 base rate for their Unlimited Premium plan for 4 lines.

For each iPhone 15 Pro Max, their normal price is $33.34 per month for 36 months. By trading in a iPhone 12 Pro Max, they give a bill credit of $27.78 per month. So each of the iPhone 15 Pro Max costs $5.56 per month for 36 months.

For each iPhone 15 Pro, their normal price is $27.78 per month for 36 months. By trading in a iPhone 12, they give a bill credit of $23.06 per month. So each of the iPhone 15 Pro Max costs me $4.73 per month for 36 months.

They are giving an additional $250.00 promo credit for each line, which breaks down to an additional $6.95 credit per month for 36 months. Since I am buying four phones, that means a total of $27.80 monthly credits.

So, after trading in four phones that are three years old, after the Costco discounts, the pricing looks like:

$160.00 Unlimited Premium plan
+ $20.56 Phones ($5.56 + $5.56 + $4.72 + $4.72)
- $27.80 Promo Credit
===========================
$152.76 Monthly Price (Pre-Tax)

Not sure exactly what the taxes will be, but in my current plan with Verizon they are roughly 11% of the pre-tax price, which would be roughly $16.80. So that puts my monthly bill around $169.56.

Compared to the $201.24 I'm paying Verizon for service on our three-year old phones, AT&T's $169.56 including brand new phones looks like a smoking hot deal.
When you say additional $250, do you mean the $100 costco gift card plus $100 bill credits or $250 one is seperate? Is it for bringing in your number?

Why not? I haven't gone to Costco to try.
I was told Google Fi is not part of the promotion. Only selected carriers like T-Mobile, Verizon, Mint, etc are eligible. I may have to move my lines to Mint and then port to AT&T.

Yes, just remember that if you trade in the phones early you lose the credits and have to pay the balance (will be more than the $/month quoted above which includes the credits)

Then instead of trading in the phone early, if you want upgrade just sell the 15 pro in the private market and buy the phone you want outright, without making changes to the line or plan.

Except the phone will be locked to AT&T and still under a device payment agreement.

I took advantage of this exact same deal over the weekend. The $250 in additional credits per line is what sealed the deal.
