And for third party hotel bookings, they're a bit less risky, but you also generally forfeit any hotel points and status benefits.
Incorrect. Booked hotels many times through the Capital One and Chase portals and have been able to add Hilton and Marriott status and have received free room upgrades and daily food credits!
Between this and Amex Plat which one to choose? I don't travel more than 2-3 times a year and not interested in Walmart+
I would say if you travel 2-3x per year the Venture X would be a safer bet, especially with the 90k bonus. My decision came down to value vs credits. In short, the high fee and coupon book style credits for the Platinum didn't seem valuable enough for me given how often we travel, so I went with the Venture X. If we change to travel more in the future, that's when I'll consider the Platinum, and moving into Amex ecosystem.
How does 300 credit card work? Is it same as Chase reserve card credit which immediately posts credit for travel expenses like toll, hotel, and airline bookings with any merchant like priceline.....?
You need to book thru c1 portal to get $300 credit on your statement.
Instantly approved. There is a Capital One lounge in the DFW airport so I'll look forward to checking that out the next time I fly. I actually fly out tomorrow, but guessing I won't be able to use it since I won't have my card by then.
Centurioun lounge has gone to crap. So overcrowded now. And oftentimes long waits to get in. Forget about trying to go to the one in Vegas. There is always a long line...and it's not even a nice lounge!
You can use the C One app, you will get a virtual card, specially that the lounge in Dallas is Capital One's own lounge. On Priority one lounges you won't be able to use Virtual numbers to sign up , you need the real card.

Ah, thanks for the correction.
I stand by my assertion that you're painfully risking a lot when you book FLIGHTS with a travel agency vs. direct with the airlines, however.
You get it once you open your account but you would also pay $395 right away
I may be sounding too naive. For those who have plans to travel within next year, it makes sense to go with Venture X than Venture when the net annual fee is coming out to be the same for both the cards ($395 - $300 = $95). Am I missing anything here?

This is NOT guaranteed. Even when the Chase portal has given me the option to add my hotel loyalty number I rarely get my status recognized. I also rarely earn hotel program points for those stays. The front desk person MAY add your loyalty number for your stay, but that isn't a guarantee either. Nor is earning hotel loyalty points.

If you book Delta flights you can make a change to it on the Delta website and Delta will take over the itinerary. So no more having to worry about going through the OTA. It may work for other airlines, but Delta is the one I use and do this little "trick" all the time.

You got lucky. Chase uses Expedia as their booking platform and Cap One uses Hopper, both are considered OTAs and properties should not recognize your hotel loyalty status nor give points for the stays. Individual front desk agents may choose to override this to give you benefits like upgrades and breakfast, but most are instructed not to. The exception is something like FHR for Amex which uses a non commissionable rate.
Just FYI, I just opened this card under the 90k bonus last night and still have yet to receive my $300 travel credit. I was hoping to use it immediately after opening the card, but looks like I may have to wait a bit.
it's free to add authorized users ...while reserve is charging a fee
Each authorized users gets 3 more (1+2) free lounge access ...while with reserve you get only initial 2 and that's it.
This card has access to more lounges than reserve
Extra lounge access makes this card worth it in my book YMMV
what do you mean?
AU get same benefits.
If you get unlimited lounge access, then AU should also get unlimited access.

Thanks for posting this. Every time I've used their pre-approval tool in the past it offers cars I'm not interested in.
This is the first I've seen a venture x pre approval tool. I was stunned it showed me as pre approved. Applied and was instantly approved.
I was at 2/24, have been on the business card train.
