I hear you and seems that way. I got a Blackstone last October on clearance for $190. You don't need all the accessories. The hard cover and soft covers are sufficient. Maybe the side wind guards.

This mat is not necessary. We did get it a couple of weeks ago because we have found a roach on the grill early on. But we always clean the grill after use and again before use… because it's outside. Bugs and things may get under the cover like every grill. Does this mat help prevent bugs, yes. Does it mean we don't clean it before using, no. So it's just a nice to have thing for our peace of mind.

About the blackstone itself… We didn't think we would love the blackstone this much. It was a good price so figured why not. We ended up loving it and use it at least once a week and during the summer we did all the large meals on it to help keep the house cool. We love doing all the Asian meals and breakfast on it.

Does not waterproof the griddle as water can enter from the lip areas There are, however, mats that cover the griddle's lip but the word is out if that actually works. I bought one with full coverage for my 17", it's very flimsy. Not going to trust it under the elements.

what is the point of this? does it stops surface from rusting? mine rusts like crazy if i dont use it for couple weeks.. and i season it all the time

I'm constantly in the market for a Blackstone, but the sheer volume of accessories is starting to make me think it's a money pit…or just incredibly fragile.

I have one of these on blackstone. Keep blackstone under grill cover and also have lid on blackstone. But couple times went to use it, and there bug droppings on on griddle surface. Added one of these on have not had any problems with pest. No sure which brand I have of this I got. But works for mine.

All you need is a sturdy spatula and scraper or 4" putty knife, tongs, two squirable bottles (repurpose a ketchup or mustard bottle) for oil and water, and a disposable foil roasting pan for steaming. You don't need all those gimmicy accessories they sell.

Finally got one of these a few weeks ago. Can't keep the dang mice off of ours so this gives me peace of mind keeping them off of the cooking surface.

I don't own it, I'm just saying a few reviews specifically say it helps preserve the seasoning and prevent rust appearing if you don't use it for a while.
