These go on sale regularly. I'd wait for a deal on a new unit and grab an extended warranty. Great unit but my first one was shot after a year.

I rarely have issues with mechanical products- combination of luck and taking care of what I have. But two of these Midea
UShaped ac units failed. This combined with woot - I give it a thumbs down. I hope fellow slickdealers listen.
That being said- the 10 year $99 AC units won't quit-

Refurbished. New ones were cheaper if you can find one or wait.

12000 BTU were 289 at Costco. Selected locations.

8000 BTU were 249 at both Home Depot & Amazon a week ago. Price may drop later again.

Neither of those are cheaper....

I have two of these that I bought almost two years ago. They're still running strong and quiet, and keeping the rooms cool and my electric bills down.

Did you read the instructions to tilt the unit slightly angled towards outside so the water runs that way? Honestly I think a lot of people's problems with appliances are user errors…
Yes, I did.

Mime just crapped out after having it for two years. It lost its freon and no longer cools. The company said it only has a one year warranty and can't help. From my research this happens a lot.

Bought a 12,000 BTU one at the beginning of the summer. It struggled to keep the room cool. Everything was sized appropriately. Compared to a traditional window unit these are whisper quiet. I will say that Midea customer service stepped up and refunded me what I paid for the unit on Amazon after trying to troubleshoot it (unsuccessfully).

We have two of these already, one purchased last year and one of Costco deal instore few months ago. Haven't really faced any issues with both & they are pretty good compared to other window units.
Same here 2 8,000 btu units, cooling 1 small and 1 medium sized room, super quiet, cools week, remote is a little Confucian.

Just dreaming of the day when window heat pumps with AC and heat exist… Unless they do and I don't know about them. And no, I'm not interested in a mini split.
There's the Midea MAW12HV1CWT:
https://www.amazon.com/Midea-Cool...0B3NJGSKL/
(Amazon goes in and out of stock)

Or a Keystone unit which looks like a rebranded Midea:
https://www.amazon.com/Keystone-C...0CCZL496K/

Neither of these are U-shaped. They are just regular box shaped. And they only operate in heat pump mode down to 41 F.

Got the 12k from costco for $400. This thing is weak. I don't care how much energy it saves, but if it can't keep my unit cool, what's the point?
I know my unit is not the best insulated that's why I got the 12k. It will work well for small rooms with proper insulation. If you guys read the reviews, many of them claimed it doesn't cool well compare to their older ACs. And this thing leaks through the window.
I have 4 of these cooling a 2750 sq ft house with no issues. If there is an insulation problem then fix it? If you see holes in the setup the insulate it? I bought a foam board from lowes and cut to spec everything I needed to seal up the window. My energy bills have been extremely low and the house is always cool.

My only issue with these units is that it pools water on the inside. This is why people get mold or fungus. I highly suggest drilling small holes in the very back so that the water from a storm will drain when tilted. Besides that these units have been worth every penny.

It pools water even if the unit is slightly downwards tilted?

I have two of the 8000 BTU units for bedrooms. They're great, much quieter than others and you get less outside noise as well. If you keep an eye out you could probably get them cheaper though. I got mine from Amazon as open box like new for $180 each after tax.
