Not exactly a 'replacement' if you need a lot of power over a long period of time, but it can do the job in a lot of cases, e.g. if you're working out on a remote property and just need to run a few tools or charge batteries here and there - they can be great for that.

Battery/Inverters are best thought of as "buffers" - they can serve as your main power source for a given amount of time (and do so silently). When the batteries get low, you can top them off by running a generator for a while then shut it off and go right back to enjoying silent power.

These do also support solar panel input, and depending on your energy needs, you may not even need to ever top off with a generator.

You do not need to power a freezer or fridge nonstop during power outages. You can quickly freeze/cool a fridge, and it will stay cold enough or hours. Further, a small 5-10btu window or mobile AC is all a person needs in an emergency. That's why it's called an emergency because you are running on bare essentials. Running a 9000w generator nonstop is expensive, loud, and just plain out of touch with reality. This device is a supplemental power source for 'essentials', and it can easily power a 120v fridge 1 or 2 cycles long enough to cool things down another 8 hours. Additionally, you can power these batteries with a generator, and you can do so quickly. not sure what the issue is here. I guess you want to live like a king during a power outage. most reasonable people do not think this way.

These are great for when power goes out without knowing time frame so can power fridge, other miscellaneous items without going through the hassle of firing up the generator. Makes a good companion to a small generator setup.

Can you use this as a backup if your EV car runs out of power? By my calculations, you should be able to charge an EV car battery with at least 1 kWh, which would give you enough power to drive 3-4 miles

I like the Delta 2 functionality that allows these to be plugged into the wall but doesn't use wall power unless the battery depletes to a defined threshold. I have this powering my office electronics and the battery gets full and stays topped off. It lasts till the next day no problem but if I have a cloudy day it flips to passthrough charging from the wall. Where I live I get bombarded with sun so I get some satisfaction utilizing that solar power and I can take the unit camping if needed. There are more economically sound options for harnessing solar but this is a fine product if you want to step foot into leveraging solar power.

how is this unit's battery drain? I returned my Bluetti AC200P because the unit self depletes in 30 hours or so without anything plugged in. Does this Delta 2 drains a lot when it's on standby?

Yep. I wouldn't recommend less than a 1600W+ generator though. The D2 inverter/battery can do 1900W off battery/solar, but when it's getting AC input from a generator, the EF Deltas will pass their connected loads through to the generator as well. so with some critical loads you might overload a smaller <=1200W gen (i.e. fridge, furnace blower, lights, and or 'extra' loads like an entertainment center or PC setup).

I got by during a 2+ day outage with a little "800W" sportsman generator but it generally wouldn't manage a 300W charge for the battery/inverter AND a fridge, overloading/shutting off. It seemed to top out around 650W or so.

A 1600W inverter generator is probably ideal for most people - or if you want to have extra headroom - a ~3200W continuous basically takes basically any capacity concerns away (besides running 240V split phase circuits). Dual fuel running propane can be very dependable, and propane doesn't 'go bad' like typical gas/ethanol blend will within 6-18 months.


I'm not necessarily recommending Ecoflow's but there's a reason why they make their own 1800W dual fuel smart generator [ecoflow.com] that can kick on automatically in concert with a Delta 2.

Without anything plugged in and the AC inverter on continuously, they will gradually drain down yeah - just like any other battery with an AC inverter continuously on, probably over the course of 2-3 days... maybe more like 4-5+ with this extra battery?

buy this, use the generator to charge it when depleted during an emergency. save gas, save money. not that hard to figure out. why use the same amount of gas running a generator for what, half-loads, when you don't have to?

I have something similar made by Bluetti. It a little over 3000WH in capacity. Since I live in a townhouse and the HOA doesn't allow gas generators it works great for me. I had an electrician put in a switching box so that when our power goes out (frequently) all I have to do is go in the garage where the circuit breaker box is and flip the switches to run from battery power.
I use it to power a gas forced air furnace, some lights, router, modem, and a TV.

I'm usually good for around 8 hours or so. We aren't allowed to have solar panels either so I plug it in to charge when power comes on. There is also a way I can charge with the cigarette lighter in the care, but I've not used that yet.

There are special tax rebates for certain types of battery backups that can help with the cost.
