This is the first time I've seen a 120hz screen on a sub $300 laptop.

That's a pretty easy process actually and far cheaper than paying extra to get it with 16GB.

Thread count at this price point it pretty good. The RAM for SODIMM DDR4 is pretty cheap at takes less than 10 min to replace. I personally like to have backlit keyboards. You may have better luck during BF with possible upgrade to i5 and Ram and backlit around same price point, so your patience may pay off

I am not in a rush. So an open question to the community, should I just hold off for sub a $300 laptop for Oct-Nov-Dec cyber/Black Friday deals?

Unless you plan on upgrading it yourself I wouldn't consider any computer with less than 16GB of RAM.

There's little benefit to this high refresh screen too. It's not exactly a gaming laptop. What do you perceive to be the benefit in this instance? 🤔

If you're playing extremely old games (say Unreal Tournament 2004) you could still probably hit 120 fps. Outside of that streaming from GeForce Now Ultimate Tier will take advantage of it and is probably your best bet to actually play new titles on this machine at anything higher than 720p low settings.

What do you think is an ideal brightness of laptop displays for someone sitting near a window on a bright sunny day ?

Careful, on SD as long as it's IPS it will be described as "very good."

That 120hz is waste on 250 nits. Ram is awful slow at just 2666 MHz.
Also usb type c port don't support charging or display output.

Probably about 350-400 actual nits indoor with sunlight. I have an Asus Zephyrus designed at 500 nits that works well outdoor. If the spec brightness is low it's important to check what the actual brightness is. A Thinkpad I have is specd at 300 nits but is actually only about 250. Also if you get something with a higher brightness you can always turn it down as long as it doesn't have PWM flicker.
