Try Ventoy.

It builds a usb boot drive that you drop multiple iso images on to, and then gives you a boot menu to choose which one you want to launch.

Basically one usb stick can be used for a windows installer, multiple Linux installations, recovery images, etc. very easily. If you have the need for something new, just insert the drive and copy/paste the new one - no tool necessary after the initial boot disk is built.

I haven't had a problem with any single image, so far.

While others already have valid options for creating bootable USB drive, I will throw in another option: Ventoy (https://www.ventoy.net/en/index.html).

You only need to prepare the drive once. Then you can just copy the ISO files to it.

Nevermind. somebody beat.me to it.

Is this a good option to store pictures and videos taken on my phone as a backup or anyone suggest other devices for storing personal data?

It's hard for me to recommend these drives. The Samsung FIT Plus and BAR Plus drives I bought last year have already severely degraded. Both started out exactly as fast as they claimed but sequential reads, in some areas, have dropped into the single digits. And yes, both drives are genuine.

I've had limited luck creating live os thumbdrives. Any specific instructions you follow or you just rufus & wing it, or?
I'll echo the suggestion of Ventoy. It's amazing. What's really nice is the option to leave free space for an additional partition. You can use that to store files/utilities that can be accessed from the live OS you boot from.

There's an Amazon Basics 256gb for $17 or 128gb for $11. If I were in the market I would probably go for one of those

They still don't make USB type C drives?

Of course they do. There are some drives with USB A on one side and USB C on the other. There are adapters to use a USB A in a USB C port. Heck, I have a USB C micro SD card reader I can use on my phone. The problem is when you want something out of the mainstream then you have to deal with limited options and a boutique price for a USB C flash drive. You're better off getting an adapter/dongle.

I seriously feel like I'd insta-lose this. They need to make you a hi-glow yellow version.

Funny how Samsung.com magically came back in stock once the price increased, too.

there are plenty of you tube videos on how... its just a flash drive and you load a boot-able image.
