I've been running Moabs for years but I really don't care for this waterproof non Gore-tex model. They line them with some kind of waterproof membrane that makes a lot of noise. I just sent a pair back a few months ago because of this. If ya don't mind the scrunching noise, these are just as comfortable as other Moabs.
I have worn these for work for, shoot... seems like over a decade now. I'm on my fourth pair. They usually last me about 2-3 years of nearly daily wear M-F. I do real estate appraisal, and these are perfect for rain and mud. It RARELY snows where I am, so I haven't really field tested them in that sort of environment.

I need the waterproofing, so these are great. And for me, the best part has always been how comfortable they are right out of the box. It seems like I've never even had to break them in. When I get a new pair, I just put them on and they are super comfortable from minute 1.
when it comes to getting waterproof hiking shoes, mid to high like this is what you want. i bought a lower waterproof shoe and realized how stupid it was when water would come in over through my ankle when the water wasn't even that high

I tried buying a pair of Propet slip-resistant shoes for work once. They were ridiculously narrow (even looked oddly skinny) and extra long. The leather quality was atrocious. The most bizarre shoes I've ever bought, and I've had a shoe problem for a long time. I'll never buy Propet again unless I happen to see them in a store or something first.

Merrells on the other hand, run perfectly true to size, in my experience. They make high quality shoes, and I wouldn't assume something from another brand is equivalent just because they look similar. I mean, a Nissan Sentra is a sedan, but that doesn't mean it's as good as a BMW M5 because they're both sedans. I gambled on a pair of "waterproof" Nortiv8 hikers from Amazon. Yes, that's a brand. They looked pretty nice but were uncomfortable, didn't breathe, leaked like a sieve when new, and the soles started to separate within 2 months. I've been a Merrell fan since I replaced those.

I have a pair of non-Goretex waterproof Moab 2's, and I haven't noticed anything like this. They could breathe a little better, and I wouldn't walk through a creek and expect to stay dry, but they've been fantastic otherwise. Kept my feet dry while working in NE Ohio's lake effect snow belt the winter before last. Was it these you tried, the Moab 3?

I found these to be on the narrow side and they give me foot cramp on a long hike. Unfortunately, wide sizes are not on sale. I generally go forth and back between Moab and Keen Targhee. Generally, keen has wider toe box for the same size.

Knockoff copycat from Fujian China. Stick with real Merrell with Vibram. For $70, Merrell is a no brainer.

The reviews. 4.2 is a poor Amazon score. Needs to be 4.5 or better. Also, they aren't any cheaper than the Merrel's. So basically your post said "Here are a pair of more expensive boots with worse reviews".

I spray the waterproof sprays on these boots time to time.

I agree. I went up 1/2 size and they're a bit too narrow, and squeeze my toes. A wide size would have been better. I'm stuck with these, so now I'll only wear them with thinner socks.
