People are entitled to buy/use whatever tools they want, but what sets the Knipex apart is the design and material quality (particularly the geometry/hardness of their teeth) - they're a "buy it for life" kind of tool whose jaws will outlast most competitors with use/abuse.

See the Knipex result in the following timestamp from the video @jeff34270 posted: https://youtu.be/qjDG4gaiRp8?t=566 - by the end of this video you can see the Knipex teeth held up better to the abuse he put them all through.

yeah this is an ok price but pretty normal, $55 is laughable.

IMO, HF's Doyle brand may very well be the best bang for the buck in pliers, especially w/ their routine 20% coupons, but, hey, I'm just a dumb old redneck in SC, so what do I know!
I was quite impressed by the Doyle version of these Knipex. The Doyles are made in Taiwan, not mainland China. And I'm not a Harbor Freight fanboy either. Harbor Freight has a lot of junk but also some good stuff like the Doyle version of the knipex

I get that there's a bit of a cult following on Knipex, but seriously since when is $27 considered slick for a glorified pair of pliers. Shouldn't this be standard price?

Besides the high quality, the reason why this is buy it for life tool because you know how much you paid for them and pay much more attention where they are. Most of the time tools need to be replaced simply because they go missing! But not with these Knipex, if you borrow them from me, I'd be standing there tapping my foot waiting for you to finish, so I can put them back on the peg board myself because as you know family and friends never put the tools back in the same place ever!

So after all the social media hype I broke down and bought a couple pairs of these with my Menard rebate checks...and I can say the hype was legit. These pliers bite and grip like NOTHING else I've ever used. Personally I think classic Channellock/Water Pump pliers still have their place, but if you need them to grip and don't care about marring up a surface then these are for you. I used my pairs as replacement pipe wrenches and screwed black iron pipe together with them. They gripped very very good. Having said that the price was less than awesome and I could have twice as many traditional tools in their place. The absolutists always trash one tool over another...buy them all folks!

Menards has these for $37.11 but with rebate they are $33.03...which makes this Amazon price a very good deal. I have the 10" and 12" models, this would be a good opportunity to buy the smaller pair if you don't already have it and want them.
