For those of you who don't know what this is:

This is a small travel router that connects to an ethernet port of an existing network, OR can be connected to an existing Wi-Fi network and used to create your own personal Wi-Fi network but this router uses a VPN to mask your traffic when used.

It can also be used on Visible to share a phone connection with multiple devices but you will be required to use a TTL hack to make it work.

There are a few ways, the one I use is:
1. Connect phone/laptop to captive login wifi.
2. Connect GL.iNet to power
3. Log in to GL.iNet web interace
4. Change GL.iNet router MAC address to the same as that of your phone/laptop.
5. Connect GL.Inet to hotel WiFi, and it'll work.

A big use for this is also when you have a hotel that charges for, and limits the number of devices that connect to wifi. This isn't as common in the US anymore, but still common internationally. Also, if you have a ton of electronics with you, having this would save you from having to reconfigure each device for the new SSID.

Side note, I have this and it works great, the VPN works well too.

I looked at that model as well for the same reason and did not like the fact that it requires 5V 4A supply. That exceeds the 5V 3A PD spec, which means that a regular USB PD power supply wont provide enough power and you need a dedicated power supply. I ended up buying the GL-A1300 which draws much less power and can use a PD power supply. It is about 1/2 the wireguard VPN speed of the beryl and 1/3 the wireguard VPN speed of the AXT1800, but it supposedly doesnt overheat either. Will be trying it out and seeing how well it works as a battery powered portable hot spot on a cruise ship.
Yeah I'm hesitant to pick up the AXT1800 as well. I guess I'll wait for maybe a newer future device. I still have an old AR750 with terrible performance in comparison, but the lack of EAP is really holding me back. If the MT3000 supported this it would have been absolutely perfect for me.

How did you do that? How was the speed for calls/etc?
Nord has Lynx which derives from WG, that's all I know.
Thanks!

There are quite a few links to guides on Reddit. You create the connection manually and it is substantially faster than using OpenVPN. Send me a DM and I'll try and find some of the links and share with you

99% of people reporting this router "not working" in hotels, cruises, etc, simply don't know what they're doing. It does require a little technical knowhow, but nothing crazy.

Well I got the A1300 today and ran it through some tests. So far it is for me, a far better experience than the MT3000. On paper, the MT3000 is a far better performer, but to me the A1300 has a far better actual performance and interface. The MT3000 seemed a beta version interface whereas the A1300 is much more polished and faster, with fewer bugs. The MT3000 took a long time to boot and hte interface was sluggish. I connected the A1300 to my system, using repeater mode and WISP to test how it would perform on travel. It took a few tries to get it working, not exactly sure what I did. I could never get the MT3000 to work and returned it. The transfer speed using speedtest was 86Mbps through the 5GHz wifi is plenty fast, and is limited by my network speed. I will now take it to a starbucks, power it with my USB C battery pack, run wireguard VPN to my firewalla and do a speedtest. With the IPQ4018 chip, the VPN speeds of 28Mbps openvpn and 170Mbps wireguard specs seems reasonable. In a hotel, the speeds allowed are unlikely to be above 50Mbps, so this is probably sufficient for me. It has EAP support as well.

In one hour, I have made much more progress with this than the Beryl AXMT3000. Oh, it runs slightly warn to the touch. BTW, this replaces my old AR750. Dont like the larger size (2x larger?) but not that heavy and speed is much better. This may also work for you.

You can't with this. I bought a different model of this brand and could never access the captive web portal.

Other than that, it's easy to use.

Are you in the US? Did you use the ethernet port that is usually behind the TV? do you need to call hotel IT to "activate" the ethernet port? I have had trouble connecting to GLinet in hotels.

Interesting, thanks for sharing! How does the wifi perform, especially when using repeater mode where you connect to another upstream wifi (e.g. in a hotel). The reason I'm asking is that it seemed to perform very poorly on my AR750 even without using any vpn.

My prior post stated that, In my home testing, I used repeater mode to connect to my wifi, then ran speedtest and it clocked at the limit of my wifi. e.g I can connect directly to my wifi, run speedtest and get 86 Mbps Then instead, use repeater mode and connect to the A1300 and run the same test and get the same result. So the limit is my wifi connection, not the A1300.

I did the same test at a local starbucks. 20Mbps direct or thru the A1300. Slow speed is the starbucks hotspot, not the Glinet. Could not get VPN to work, Posted on their forums to get ideas why it doesnt work. I did run the A1300 off a battery pack and it ran a good hour and barely made a dent in the battery. (4 battery levels, and after an hour, still at 4 battery level)

Yes US. I haven't needed the ethernet port yet, just use wifi so haven't tried it in a "hotel" setting. I just use the wifi in repeater mode, I'm not a regular user just occasionally, so I'm sure some settings and scenarios, this won't work.
