For those of you who don't know what this is:

This is a small travel router that connects to an ethernet port of an existing network, OR can be connected to an existing Wi-Fi network and used to create your own personal Wi-Fi network but this router uses a VPN to mask your traffic when used.

It can also be used on Visible to share a phone connection with multiple devices but you will be required to use a TTL hack to make it work.

There are a few ways, the one I use is:
1. Connect phone/laptop to captive login wifi.
2. Connect GL.iNet to power
3. Log in to GL.iNet web interace
4. Change GL.iNet router MAC address to the same as that of your phone/laptop.
5. Connect GL.Inet to hotel WiFi, and it'll work.

A big use for this is also when you have a hotel that charges for, and limits the number of devices that connect to wifi. This isn't as common in the US anymore, but still common internationally. Also, if you have a ton of electronics with you, having this would save you from having to reconfigure each device for the new SSID.

Side note, I have this and it works great, the VPN works well too.

I just tried it and still getting it. Make sure you're applying the promotional balance at checkout.

Expensive for what it is. The bandwidth you'll get coming out of a hotel feed, is not enough to warrant the speed and cost of the actual router. Cheaper versions that do the same thing and you won't notice any difference, WiFi or direct connect.
Any devices you could recommend please?

I use this one as my travel router. Set up a VPN back at home and configure this as a client. Each time its powered on, I can enjoy VPN Tunneling straight to my home bypassing annoying geofencing. Great for entertaiment (netflix, etc).. and work... while "abroad" i.e. use my work laptop and the IP still shows as being 'home'.

If you have it in router mode then you don't need to set it to use your laptop mac address. Just log into it. Set it to use the hotel wifi as the wan and then browse the hotel web captive port. The hotel wifi will see all devices behind the router as coming from the same IP and Mac address.

Yes US. I haven't needed the ethernet port yet, just use wifi so haven't tried it in a "hotel" setting. I just use the wifi in repeater mode, I'm not a regular user just occasionally, so I'm sure some settings and scenarios, this won't work.
are you using it as a 'Repeater' ? not in the 'Router mode'?

There is only 1 router on the network, the one that the hotel has. This GL.iNet fakes being a "router" for our devices but in network topology it is actually a repeater. All connections combine in the GL.iNet and exit as a single point to the real router.
Hmm, I guess different network setups then.
What you said was actually the first thing I tried, but the browser wouldn't go to the captive login page. So I looked up a resolution and steps I mentioned worked.
What you say may work in some places, but admins have the ability to block repeater type use cases.

Don't overthink the naming too much, it is actually repeating the hotel wifi at the same time acting *like* a router for the devices we connect to it.

Pro tip: use the app to access even more features that the web interface won't show. True with the previous models also.

Why should I get one of these (AX3000) for $80 vs the GL-SFT1200 for $36? I really only need a router for vacation for sharing hotel/resort internet with the family's devices. Thoughts appreciated.

Just received mine. After an hour or so getting familiar with the device, I can see why people rave about this unit.

Thanks, OP.

Absolutely, wrong. The hotel cannot see the devices behind the router in router mode that is router designed for
