For those of you who don't know what this is:

This is a small travel router that connects to an ethernet port of an existing network, OR can be connected to an existing Wi-Fi network and used to create your own personal Wi-Fi network but this router uses a VPN to mask your traffic when used.

It can also be used on Visible to share a phone connection with multiple devices but you will be required to use a TTL hack to make it work.

There are a few ways, the one I use is:
1. Connect phone/laptop to captive login wifi.
2. Connect GL.iNet to power
3. Log in to GL.iNet web interace
4. Change GL.iNet router MAC address to the same as that of your phone/laptop.
5. Connect GL.Inet to hotel WiFi, and it'll work.

A big use for this is also when you have a hotel that charges for, and limits the number of devices that connect to wifi. This isn't as common in the US anymore, but still common internationally. Also, if you have a ton of electronics with you, having this would save you from having to reconfigure each device for the new SSID.

Side note, I have this and it works great, the VPN works well too.

I don't know how one could possibly bypass EAP by cloning the MAC. This doesn't make any sense to me. Unless the AP has a serious security flaw.
You would need to use your phone/tablet/PC to authenticate using EAP and then clone that devices MAC to the router, pretty simple process.

The beryl spec is <8W power consumption, the 1300 is <6W. So it uses about 33% more power. I suspect that perhaps I got an old version of the Beryl AX. I bought it about a month ago direct from Glinet's website, and when I opened the box, I noticed that the documentation linked me to the Glinet V2 docs even though the current firmware is v3. I had difficulty with their V2 documentation. Even after I upgraded the firmware to v3, it was still sluggish. Glinet has been known to update their hardware, so maybe I got an earlier version? Whereas when I got the A1300 from Amazon, it had up to date firmware and documentation link. Shame on GLinet to sell old stock of Beryls. At least they took it back and refunded it once I agreed to remove my negative review on Amazon. But I am happy with My A1300.
It uses a lot less than that spec. https://reddit.com/r/GlInet/s/UPUOtgKvRy

Hm that still makes no sense to me from a technical perspective. I'm not sure if my old-old gl.inet ar150 does EAP or not, if it doesn't then I can try it out this weekend as I have EAP set up in my home.

How would you even configure the upstream wifi on the router? empty password?

This is a good choice for people who travel with multiple devices.

I travel with this and a Raspberry Pi which acts as my network wide ad blocker. If you travel to the same hotels or housing frequently, all you have to do is set up your pocket router and you're done. Then all of your devices will automatically connect to your pocket router. You can also set it up so you can connect to a VPN service. I do this and connect to a VPN that routes back to my home address so I can enjoy my favorite shows at home without getting that nagging warning about my IP address changing.

The most annoying thing is sometimes I can't get past the captive portals in hotels, even with MAC Address Cloning.

I have been using this pocket router for over 4 years now and still going strong. I highly recommend buying it.

Can I use it as fileshare or filehub function? Was comparing this one with
https://www.amazon.com/NewQ-Filehub-AC750-Travel-Router/dp/B09T9QKQH7/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1TXR0KHNRJ2ZX&... [amazon.com]

What are the uses for the USB port?

Works really well for sharing a single Internet plan on a cruise ship w multiple devices in the room 😜.
If you all stuck together you could probably carry w you around ship and power w a battery pack as well to make a roaming hot spot.

Yes and No.
If you are using generic unlocked android phone from non-US market that most likely would work well tethering/wi-fi hotspot with router on TTL mod to be able run over tethering/hotspot limitation.

But if you are using the carrier sold or carrier branded phone, it would restrict tethering/wi-fi hotspot upon its plan before it reaching the router

Thank you for the kind reply. I am using an unlocked S23 Ultra on T-Mobile in the US.

Samsung S23 most likely cannot work for your purposes, it has Google carrier service preinstalled to enforce carrier's policy

Does anyone know of any travel router with all such features plus the ability to take in a SIM card on 5G data? Would that be too expensive?
