Managed lets you create VLANs, essentially turning one physical network into multiple virtual networks.

At home you're usually putting IOT stuff on it's own network to minimize the chinese government taking over your smart home.

The metal cased TP-Link SG models as well as the ProSafe versions of the Netgear also have lifetime warranty. I just got an RMA for a 10-year old Netgear 8-port. They sent me the latest version as a replacement.
EDIT: TP-Link looks like they changed their warranty period on 8/31/2023. Might only be 3-years now?

Yeah seems like it.

I was comparing this one with the Tp SG108 from couple of weeks ago.
That one is metal but listing shows 3 year.

I had always thought these things are indestructible as long as lighting don't hit my house but then my ASUS ac68 died…

They'll still take over your smart home since most of those devices come straight from China. It's the other stuff on your network that you're protecting.

If you're advanced enough to setup VLANs and separate wireless networks, setting up a homeassistant server and cutting off WAN should be pretty easy. My IOT stuff is all cheap china stuff but none of it can call home so security risk is extremely low.

My ASUS switch just died yesterday. Can any of you networking experts tell me why I should buy this Netgear for $19 over this Tenda for $12?

Is it mainly a metal v. plastic case? I realize Netgear is a better name, but it seems Tenda is pretty reputable so I am wondering for a novice user whether it makes sense to save the $7. Thoughts?
