So in my example of "so poorly abbreviated it is impossible to search"...."'tertiary subdr motr"" I just type "window motor" and it will cross reference "tertiary subdr motr." LOL...okay.
Yikes! I guess I'm lucky that I haven't yet had that specific experience.
I think the worst thing was when I couldn't tell if a tie rod was for the front or rear because it wasn't specified.
(you'd think "front" but a Pontiac Fiero has both front AND rear tie rods)
As mentioned they have some new features to help with that.
They also show the truck if it will ship from the same warehouse. So if you picked your thermostat what hoses will ship from the same place.
It's not perfect though. If I'm doing work I might be doing the whole front suspension but while I'm at it this other thing that's sort of unrelated and I don't want to pay $13 shipping on. You have to still fiddle with it some. But it's better than it was. It's kinda like a game to me at this point
Then go compare to amazon
After you add one item to your cart, look up your next item and look for the tan and black truck icon next to the info button. Those items will ship from the same warehouse. Usually, the shipping cost will only be raised about a dollor, instead of nine dollors.
True, but I have found that very often the Amazon prices are higher (beyond the questionable source of the part) so they end up being about the same all-in. I believe they do pay for returns if they send the wrong thing, which can happen.
AutohausAZ is another good, longtime independent parts shop.
I received counterfeit oil filters from Rock Auto two years ago. They were supposed to be genuine Hyundai filters but had misspellings on the filter and caused the engine to tap. I subsequently purchased a genuine Hyundai filter at the dealer and the writing was correct and no engine taps.
Rock Auto would not accept the counterfeit filters because it was over 30 days. I had to dispute on my credit card.
I recently buy from Amazon more than RA as I found Amazon price + free shipping is lower. Of course I buy "shipped and sold by Amazon" only. I've got nameless or counterfeit parts that don't work from 3rd party sellers on Amazon.
Amazon has hidden filter by seller but it is still possible by a URL parameter. After your search just add "&rh=p_6:ATVPDKIKX0DER" to the end of URL. With that filter on, you see same brands as RA: felpro standard denso walker ... plus oe brands, sold by Amazon.
Amazon's user review is valuable resource that RA lacks. Many times I got installation and fitment tips from other DIYers that I cannot find in product info
Caution on RA's house brand Ultra Power. It's no better than Amazon 3rd party seller trash. I bought 6 fuel injectors 3 of them leaked. I bought a valve cover gasket it leaked badly. I later bought a felpro gasket it was much thicker than ultra Power and did the job.
Amazon's reviews are often manipulated or fake. For example, I recently had an Amazon seller offer me a $5.00 Amazon gift card if I complete a positive review. As well, I had a few items delivered to my home from Amazon that I didn't order. It is my understanding that the seller that sent the items will self review these shipments.
I agree, ONLY purchase items sold and shipped from Amazon and not third party sellers.
Also, I have received counterfeit oil filters from Rock Auto. Rock Auto 30 day return bit me so I had yo dispute on my credit card.
I love Rockauto n all, but when haven't they had a 5% off coupon? I've used one every time I've ordered from them. Just googled "Rock Auto coupons" and there's always one that works.

Only downside is they charge for shipping and you could get hit with multiple shipping charges if your products are coming from different warehouses.
I don't know if you guys knew this but here is the link to the RockAuto discount code megathread on slickdeals that has new updated discount codes.
