The small form factor (SFF) boxes aren't as easy to hide away as the micro form factor (MFF) systems. However, there are more expansion options and the use of traditional desktop CPUs in SFF systems instead of the power optimized options more common in the MFF systems (so, for example, an i5-8500 vs. an i5-8500T) gives these desktops good upgrade options and potentially greater performance per dollar (in the example given between 10-20% more performance depending upon your application). The only downside is having lower efficiency. The i5-8500 could draw up to 65 watts to achieve its performance.
The comparable modern Alder Lake system might be an i3-N305. The i5-8500 likely provides greater performance in a number of workloads. However, to achieve its performance the i3-N305 would only sip 15 watts. Admittedly a fully equipped N305 system would likely be priced much higher than $200.
Good luck!
Jon
Video cards I would recommend something like the RX550 [ebay.com] on a budget or A6400 if you have more cash.
Win11 compatible.

If you have existing RAM sticks, note that they probably will NOT work because these SFF machines typically use low-voltage (1.2V) RAM compared to the more common 1.5V.
This is the cheapest I have seen the SFF i8500

For lots of cameras blueiris is too much for it, have to turn frame rates down. The Linux stuff is not very demanding on the server. Plex if using direct play will be fine, I am not sure how this PC will do with high res on the fly transcoding -mine cannot do 4k transcoding but direct play 4k works perfectly.
The SFF makes it tight for hard drives, I have a similar size Asus and have getto rigged an extra 3.5" drive into the case. I have 2 nvme (1 on pcie adapter) and 2 3.5" drives in mine. Larger case would be nice for multiple drives for NAS like use.
