Yep, agreed, Been to Maui three times. Found locals ruder and less welcoming every time. Most people there don't understand that tourism is the *only* industry Hawaii has, and want all tourists off of their island. I have a friend from Maui, and even he doesn't understand the reality. He says stuff like "only hotel and restaurant owners want tourists. The rest of us get government assistance from the state, we so don't care about tourists". I'm not sure where he thinks Hawaii government gets the money, but I don't argue with him.

One of the prettiest parts of Maui is the Road to Hana. It's almost impossible to drive now. Almost every single pull-out now has a "no parking" sign and the fines are enforced, so you can't stop and snap a picture of those beautiful waterfalls (well, you can, but now you risk a fine). I also had multiple locals take the trouble to stop, open their truck window and scream "Get off the road you f-ing a-hole". I wasn't *in* the road. I was on the side of the road where they could pass by easily, yet they still felt the need to do what they did. I heard them curse out other people, and even children multiple times.

If you don't believe me, read the "Maui Revealed" book, which is the most popular guidebook on Maui (https://www.amazon.com/Maui-Revea...141&sr=8-1).

In it, the authors freely admit that the locals "forgot the spirit of Aloha, especially on the Road to Hana".

After the last trip and being cursed out by locals several times, my wife and I decided "never again". We still go to Oahu, which is the Gathering Place and is a lot more welcoming to tourists. But Maui is not for us. It's a beautiful island, but honestly the fire damage is nothing compared the hostility of many (not all, but many) locals.

Yes! Maui needs you! You can stay in Kihei, Kahului, Hana, or Wailea-Makena quite easily. From October 8th, you can also stay in Kaanapali, Honokowai, Napili, and Kapalua. The workers need you! Ignore the naysayers. Maui is still awesome.

It looks like basic economy for $197. You can get some flights in the main cabin for $247.

Are there any luxury hotel vacancies, or are they still being occupied by FEMA employees?

Why would I want to visit Maui when it's burned to the ground? Is this really a deal?
You have obviously never been to Maui. While Lahaina was a great town and is a terrible loss, there are many other areas of Maui that remain. It's a tough call for sure because of the tragedy, but the entire island did not burn to the ground.

might be easier and cheaper (and less headache) to just attend the Burning Man event instead of burned out Maui.
Other than the base ~$400ish ticket you need to have all food and supplies for the week (including shelter). Add travel and fuel (not including party supplies and outfits) it's $$$$+ including PTO.

It's a very privileged event and becoming full of a-holes.

Maui would be better. Their main industry is tourism and that's been devastated.

yes, I completely agree - you are right. When travelling to Maui, PTO is most definitely not needed. Hotels are 100% free. Food is free too. so is entertainment. Settlers (aka locals) are not a-holes and will not steal anything unlike in Kalihi, Hnl. So the only expense to Maui is $197 for a ticket. what a deal!!
Sounds like you've never been to BRC and probably not Maui either. BM is an SF org that makes millions a year and the other are actual locals suffering a devastating tragedy that desperately needs help. That tourism can literally save lives.

Troll along, little doggie. Troll along.

this thread is for people that are trying to vacation while getting best bang for the buck. It looks like your agenda is to lure unknowing tourists into this expenditure trap, called Maui.

Maybe those poi boiz riding their trucks screaming 'haoles' and /or 'haoles get out of Hawaii' can donate their trucks and help out and save lives?

And be given their independence finally and come crying back later when China buys the whole place.
