Every single review of the product on Amazon is a "Vine Customer Review of Free Product"- It is hard for me to trust those.

Happens all the time on Amazon. Sellers will list multiple skus and all the reviews get funneled to the same page. Sku's get taken off an new ones jump in but keep the same reviews. Amazon reviews has become a shit hole.

Alternatively you can just buy the electric motor and legs and buy a countertop (from IKEA for example, like the Saljän)

Most office chairs have a minimum floor to seat height of about 16".

You're telling me that from where you're sitting, there's less than a foot between your seat and your elbows?

Most desks can only go down to 29". Any lower will definitely jack up your back siting in a chair.
