I have the fixed bridge c1 version, which has emg active pickups (81-85) and also on sale for $550 for anyone not looking for a tremelo. Fantastic guitar out of the box, but I did lower the action and throw light top heavy bottom strings on it:

For the overall statistics, I bought and returned 3 C-1 platinums due to quality issues since seeing this deal here. They shipped Guitar Centers in Sacramento, Roseville, and Ventura California. The 3rd one I just returned shipped with rusty strings and several rusty frets.

Maybe just my bad luck, but am now thinking another direction than Schecters on sale from GC.

Interesting. I had mine pm'ed through Musicians Friend. I got an email the very next day asking if it was OK to ship me one from a GC store so "I could enjoy my gear quicker". Besides accept, system gave me a few options w/one being to wait for a brand new one in box. Fearing I'd get a beat up floor model I chose to wait. I'm also really in no hurry. Looks like I made the right choice. Later I got a confirmation email saying it's on backorder. Both GC and MF currently show "in stock ready to ship". I'm sure those are all floor models.

Good call on using musicians friend for a NiB. When I bought mine, I walked into a GC and grabbed one off the wall. Rusty high strings are usually a given, but since I always swap them out it wasn't a deal breaker for me.

I think the key difference here is I got to inspect the floor model to decide vs having it shipped sight unseen

I just received mine today, shipped from Guitar Center. It arrived wrapped in bubble wrap, with a large dent/crack on the bottom of the body, no tremolo, and scratches on the black plates on the back. Ridiculous! I immediately called and initiated a return. Guess I'll buy elsewhere from now on.

For this reason and others it's always better to price match at Musician's Friend when Guitar Center has a price MF doesn't. In the offhand they ever offer to fulfill your order from a nearby GC you can tell them you'll wait for a NiB item. You're at GC's mercy when ordering from them sadly, because they won't tell you if it's a floor or demo model if you don't ask. And there's no 8% rewards program.

The only reasons I can think of to order from GC online is B&M returns.

I learned my lesson with used GC about a year ago. Bought a LTD in a hard to find color. Called the store, dude said it was "almost mint". Bought it, showed up about a week later...damn near exactly as you described yours! I ended keeping it though. Gave it a good setup, and a polish to get the fine scratches from the face. The no trem didn't bother me either cuz I usually swap out for a Magik Arm. Worst thing was a noticeable dent in the back. What bothered me the most was the salesman's description...smh

Mine was supposed to be NEW, though, not used!

I won't be using Guitar Center again, in any event.
