Please don't "test" anything you want to sell on this player. It will damage the records. This is not a real turntable.

you don't need to spend $500 for a player that won't destroy your records; but you certainly do need to spend more than $20. there are plenty of decent players available around the $100-$150 price range, with Audio Technica usually offering the best bang for your buck.

You're being ridiculous IMO; records are made of much sturdier stuff than you give them credit for.

They are mass produced and designed to endure normal wear and tear from average consumers that have mediocre/affordable equipment.

For example, Kid Stuff records from the 1980's [ecrater.com] were intended for children to use and enjoy. I doubt a youngster from the 1980s was using a $2,000 [in2013dollars.com] high end record player because they were worried that a cheap turntable would destroy a $5 record.

Now I'm not saying that this $20 record player is high end but it's good enough IMO to occasionally use and enjoy records and to introduce someone to the vinyl hobby.

Personally, I don't have the patience to play vinyl like I stated previously as I can get instant quality music gratification by playing FLAC files. But I understand the allure of collecting vinyl due to their beautiful large art work on album covers and the enjoyable tactile experience of playing physical media. I collect physical copies of vintage video games so I can relate...

Yeah he's probably right maybe you should send the albums to me and I'll test them for you. I have a high-end player. Haha 😁

Technically, every time you play a record you wear a tiny bit of it off...unless you've got one of those laser scanning record players. Do those exist outside of audio recovery labs?

I doubt anyone on this forum would notice if a record was played a couple of times on this. And why would you let your valuable vinyl anywhere near this anyway?

For the stuff you pick up at goodwill, the used record store, or a friend's house it's probably fine ie: don't put your 5000 gram vinyl on it.

This tech has to better from the 80's and 90's. I'm an audiophile, but I'm not an expert.
This is likely inferior to the average record player made in the 80s.

This is DEFINITELY inferior to any record player you've ever owned, unless you owned a close-and-play as a kid.

Even worse than the horrible SoundDesign all-in-ones of the '70s.

Atrocious.

Amazing what Amazon will put their name on now.

I kind of doubt it's worse than the "Donnie and Marie" cardboard-like, suitcase style, late 70s record player my parents gave us kids to mess around with. I remember breaking a few needles trying to scratch with my Dad's old 45s. laugh out loud

In a grid down scenario, or apocalypse, I'll still be able to listen to my Iron Maiden collection and and be able to play it with my solar panels/battery backup. Anyone who reads post-apocalyptic books know how quite the end is.

I got out of vinyl before it was cool again. Stopped buying CD's 10+ years ago. Now I have recently bought some cd's just to rip since the music is not available online. Life is strange.

A perfect player for Power Records, they were full of scratches and pops to begin with.

Amazon is somewhat like Sears in the 1970's; placing their brand name on cheap but relatively decent/adequate generic products and calling them their own. Sears even re-branded Atari 2600 [youtube.com] and Intellivision [youtube.com] systems for example.

The turntable is a good deal at $20 shipped IMO as it is currently selling for $65 [amazon.com]; reviews are relatively decent as well. You should have enough common sense not to play $1k records on it of course. (Although they should be fine IMO. Records are pretty robust and not the extremely fragile things that audiophiles make them out to be. As long as your turntable is not on fire and its needle is not bearing down on the record with the weight of a thousand suns you should be good).

Then again, if you are paying that much for vinyl then obviously this modest turntable, and Slickdeals for that matter, is not for you. Honestly I think the whole vinyl scene is more status than substance if you know what I mean...

I would give this to a 6 year old, along with used vinyl albums you bought for a buck at Goodwill. That's it.
