R32 is hard or impossible to get your hands on if you plan to service or add refrigerant in the future. That's what's stopping me at least from getting this.

Officially it's still a few years before phase out, but yeah.... In theory, if you pick all the boxes so they warranty your product, they might provide the refrigerant or give you a replacement unit as it's either part of the parts or part of the compressor that has failed resulting in an unexpected release. But really at this price it's approaching the cost of a window shaker and could be viewed as a 5+ year investment in your back (12k window shakers are flipping heavy)

You sure? I thought r32 was being phased in over 410a. 410a is being phased out.

I installed this in the kitchen. An 18k unit. Was a non-believer and just wanted to try it out. Ended up with something that cooles the kitchen down fast even at 100f weather outside and insane humidity in NY when we were getting these heatwaves.
Poorly insulated walls and lots of windows facing south west so it'd get insanely hot. This thing was amazing. The only gripe is that the indoor noise is present and the unit runs constantly until you tell it to stop cooling. Overall, i paid $5/month more in electricity but i had this unit running all the time.
We'll see how it handles cold weather.

R32 is difficult to source by the DIY crowd because it requires special licensing to purchase, due to its slight flammability. Chances are good you may never be able to get your hands on some legally

I have heard folks from Slickdeals that they are topping of R410a (yes mixing r410a in a r32 system)
I bought the 18k unit for $650 about 5 months ago. Install went ok. I followed online videos and have a friend that has a nice vacuum pump he let me use. So far this summer it has worked amazing. A few cold nights tested out the heat too. That was a nice feature for spring and fall nights. Now the big question is how long will it last. If I get 5 years out of it then its a grand slam. If I get 3, I would do it again. 2 or 1 and I think maybe I learned my lesson. My friend who does HVAC said don't worry about what type of refrigerant is in it, because if it leaks out anyone coming out to service it will charge more than buying a new unit. He just said these are throw away units and he is on the fence of their value/return. Fingers are crossed
